In the series between Team Liquid and Golden Guardians on August 13, 2023, Liquid’s Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon became the first Jungler in LCS history to make a pentakill.
Pentakills are common in more aggressive players and those who carry their team’s offense. However, for a Support or Jungler to make them is something to admire. In addition, there is the fact that, throughout the entire history of the LCS, no Jungler had achieved a pentakill, but this wait ended with the excellent play of Pyosik.
Pyosik makes an extraordinary pentakill against Golden Guardians
As we mentioned, performing a pentakill being a Jungler is a complicated milestone, but, Pyosik managed to do it extraordinarily.
In the second series against Golden Guardians and playing with Viego, Pyosik got the fantastic pentakill we showed in the previous video. As we can see, the talented South Korean player flanked GG while they were ready to fight a battle in the mid-lane. Moreover, this pentakill would not have been possible without the help of Neeko’s Ultimate.
When the opposing players got careless, Viego, with his “snowball machine,” took it upon himself to eradicate all the Golden Guardians players. He started with excellent kills to Maokai, Tristana, and Rumble, while he then annihilated the remaining players to seal the pentakill. As a result, Pyosik won the series MVP award.
At the time, no one knew that Pyosik was marking a new milestone in the LCS history books. However, Riot Games published a post where they mentioned that this was the first pentakill by a jungler in the LCS. Likewise, this is not the first time the South Korean had achieved a pentakill in his career, as the first one was when he played in the LCK several years ago.

Junglers and pentakill
As we mentioned, it is very rare to see Jungler or Support players getting pentakill in official League of Legends matches. The Mid, Top, and Bot Laner usually achieve this feat. In addition, this pentakill becomes the first by a Jungler in all four major LoL leagues worldwide this season.
This exceptional play by Pyosik set the tone for the series, giving Team Liquid’s second win to take a 2-0 lead. However, the Golden Guardians boys held on and managed to even the score at 2-2. In the end, Team Liquid took the victory to advance to the Lower Bracket finals, where they will fight against NRG for a place in the tournament’s Grand Final.
Team Liquid’s victory also ensured that the team finished in the TOP 3 of this tournament’s leaderboard, so they have their ticket ready for the next Worlds 2023. Furthermore, this marks Liquid’s return to the season’s top tournament after missing the 2022 edition.
