Essential announcements by the ALGS
In addition to informing the date and location of the year’s first major tournament, the ALGS has also confirmed that all LAN events for the 2022-23 season will be played in London.
The ALGS has announced that LAN format events will return to Europe for top-tier Apex Legends events, following last year’s Split Two Playoffs played in Sweden.
That event was the first to be played in LAN format since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, so the organizers did not allow anyone besides players, coaches, and team owners to witness the tournament live.
The ALGS is looking to bounce back in the third year of the competition by hosting LAN events in the Split 1 and 2 Playoff events and, of course, the ALGS Championship.
Split 1 Playoffs – February 2nd-5th
The Split 1 Playoffs will be at the Copper Vox Arena in London from February 2 to 5, 2023.
The Copper Vox Arena already knows what it’s like to host important esports competitions over the years. The most recent of these was the Rocket League Championship Series Major.
In addition, it has also hosted DreamHack events for games like CS:GO and Super Smash Bros. Melee.
We should highlight that the Copper Vox Arena is not as big as the PNC Arena, where the 2022 ALGS Championship was played in Raleigh, North Carolina. Still, it has the ideal conditions to host a tournament of this magnitude.
Small location = more pressure
Yes, even though the Copper Vox Arena is a relatively small venue, the pressure and noise will likely increase on the teams competing for a share of the $1 million prize pool.
While there will be 40 teams participating, only one can take home the juicy $300,000 first-place prize.
Format
First of all, the teams will compete in the Group Stage. Then they will have to play for their lives in the tournament’s next phase in a double-elimination format. This will be the tournament’s first three days, leading up to the grand final on Sunday.
Confirmed teams
Among the teams that have managed to qualify for the Split 1 Playoffs, we have the current world champions and two-time LAN winners, DarkZero. In addition, we will also have the participation of top-rated teams such as TSM, 100 Thieves, and Fnatic.
On the other hand, we will also have some home teams playing in this event, such as Invictus Gaming, Alliance, Pioneers, and more.
News about the other LAN events in London next year will follow in the coming weeks.
All eyes are on the Copper Vox Arena, where the best Apex players in the world will battle it out for the championship crown and the juicy $300,000 cash prize.
