The developers of one of the pioneering video games in the Battle Royale era, KRAFTON, have announced details regarding its new competitive tournament, the PUBG EMEA Championship (PEC).

This will be the first PUBG event to be held in 2023 and covers Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

PUBG EMEA Championship

Through an official statement, KRAFTON, the developer of PUBG, has officially announced the first competitive tournament of 2023. The PEC is part of the significant change the developers are making to generate a new and better competitive ecosystem for this Battle Royale.

As we mentioned, teams competing in the African, Europe, and Middle East regions will meet in this first event of 2023 and will fight for a significant part of the $100,000 prize pool. However, the important thing is to add PUBG Global Championship Points and some direct quotas for the PUBG Global Series.

The PEC starts with an open qualifier to be played in March. Playoffs will follow this, and the Grand Final will be played at the end of March. This stage will see the top 16 teams in EMEA battle it out for three days with six matches per day, hoping to seal their direct ticket to the PUBG Global Series.

Participating teams

To play in the PEC, there are two ways to do so:

  • Be invited by being part of the PUBG Global or Regional Partner Team.
  • Passing all the open qualifiers and the next stages of the open qualifiers, where 256 teams will participate.

Unlike the Global Partner Teams, the Regionals don’t have costumes in the game. But we can see collaborations as we have seen in FUT Esports in the past. What is currently provided to Regional Partner Teams is to receive an invitation to the second round of the PEC, the first stage of the PGC, and other tournaments. The tournament format identifies the second round as “Playoffs.”

The Regional Partner Teams in the EMEA region are:

  • ACEND
  • BBL Esports
  • Digital Athletics
  • Entropiq
  • FUT Esports

These five teams will join PUBG’s three global partners in the EMEA region:

  • NaVi
  • Twisted Minds
  • FaZe Clan

According to the official PUBG Esports blog:

“We’re thrilled to announce the next chapter of PUBG Esports in Europe – The PUBG EMEA Championship (PEC). As the first of two PEC events this year, PEC: Spring will kick off with a mammoth round of Open Qualifiers. The best teams from across Europe and MEA will compete for a share of the $100,000 prize pool, PGC Points, 2 PGS slots, and the glory of being the best team in EMEA.”

Schedule

As mentioned, this event starts with the Open Qualifiers in Europe on March 1-5 and MEA on March 2-5.

From both Qualifiers, 14 teams will qualify to play the playoffs, playing in a double-elimination format with Upper and Lower Brackets. However, the teams that make it through the playoffs will join the eight regional partner teams and the top two teams that make it through a wildcard into Protality Season 6. The playoff stage will take place from March 9-12.

Finally, the tournament culminates with the Grand Final from March 24-26, where the top 16 playoff teams will battle it out for the PEC crown.
