VCT Pacific Kickoff runner-up Paper Rex says, they’ll take this loss against Gen.G to find a more balanced team composition for Valorant Masters Madrid.

Speaking at a press conference after their Grand Finals match, PRX team captain Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto said, “We kind of like experiment a lot right? But we love these kinds of things. So I think somehow, maybe for Madrid we try to like make it more balanced and make it like good in terms of strategy.”

Paper Rex head coach Alexandre “alecks” Sallé says, PRX will have little time to manuever as they will also be shooting content with Riot Games, and then take a break to plan before Madrid.

“So after that we might take a short break, and then we immediately are gonna figure out why we lost this game. And then hopefully, with the little time we have we will be able to
Improve,” Coach Alecks told reporters.

Paper Rex and Gen.G will be the APAC representatives for the first major global event for competitive Valorant, which will be held from March 1-14 in Madrid, Spain.

GRAND FINALS: WHAT WENT WRONG FOR PRX?

The team also answered questions from the press about what happened in their Grand Finals match against Gen.G.

Paper Rex only won Split,13-4, while Gen.G won Ascent (13-5), Lotus (13-11) and Bind (13-4) during the best-of-5 Grand Finals in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, South Korea.

Coach alecks said, they also were too aggressive and too defensive at the same time which led to them cracking under the weight of Gen.G’s offense during the match.

“I think we were both afraid to make plays and also too aggressive when we decided to do it. It’s a mix of both, yeah. Too aggressive and too defensive at the same time. Normally we have a nice balance but today, we’re exhausted,” Coach Alecks told reporters.

He also explained why Paper Rex struggled at times to read through Gen. G’s game during the Grand Finals, saying, “You know it’s difficult to get a read on the meta, because there’s no, you know, everyone’s trying new stuff. We might have overcooked a little bit or a lot, and we will be taking it. But also, if I mean, we’re still gonna just experiment, we’re at the experimental phase. We only got to play 2 matches. And you know, this is, this is time for us to see like how things work in, and I think we will really work on our game this season.”

f0rsakeN explained more about their triple-duelist competitive setup, saying, “Honestly for our three-duelist split, I think we just changed it like, a week ago, yeah? And I would say, I think it’s kind of working. And who knows? Maybe in the future we will try to thing of like, 4-duelist or 5-duelist. New meta I guess!”

ON MONYET’S PERFORMANCE

Coach alecks also addressed concerns about Cahya “Monyet” Nugraha’s participation in the team, saying he needed “more time” to play with the team.

“No, of course he needs more time. I think you have to remember that this is probably his first like big, grand finals. Big attempt to go to Madrid both games, you know. It’s it means a lot to him, you know, so I think as a young player, you know. Sometimes you put a lot of pressure on yourself to perform, and he also has, like quite big shoes to fill, even though I feel that we are trying not to give him that kind of pressure. It’s only natural, you know, like you come in, and we were second in the world at one point and you know, if if you if you if you press the scoreboard and you see yourself playing badly. You can go. You can really mess your head, you know, and we’re trying to try and work with him to make it better,” alecks said.

Monyet replaced Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie, who moved to the sixth man position due to his current enlistment in the Singaporean Armed Forces. – PAOLO BARCELON, FRAGSTER.COM
