We’re down to the three final teams at VCT Masters Madrid as the event reaches its ending stage. Paper Rex, a team that has not looked the greatest, has found their footing and taken down the Brazilian giants of LOUD.

Map 1 – Ascent

The first map of the series was LOUD’s comfort pick of Ascent. For some reason, Paper Rex decided to start on the offense in such a defense-sided map. It looked like the strategy was working out, as the Pacific squad started the game up 5-1 after winning the pistol round.

However, LOUD answered back, winning five of six rounds at the end of the half, with the score set at 7-5 in Paper Rex’s favor. However, LOUD began to look rock solid on the offense, building up a 11-9 advantage after winning four straight.

With their backs against the wall, Paper Rex could keep their composure and play calmly. With five opening frags in the second half alone, something dragged Paper Rex to the finish line, winning four in a row to win the map 13-11.

Map 2 – Sunset

Fans were treated with a back-and-forth start to the second map, Sunset, until Paper Rex began stringing rounds to win the half 7-5 on their defense. By half time, the entire Paper Rex squad was contributing evenly, with no particular player standing out.

However, something continued his star-level performance, finding massive impact on the offense with his trusty Gekko pick. With the help of mindfreak, something shut down LOUD’s defense and helped Paper Rex close the map 13-8, winning the series 2-0.

The top performer of the series, was by far, something, who played Gekko on both maps. He ended the match with a KDA of 44/27/13 and a 1.41 rating. The Russian import had an uncharacteristic underperformance in the match against Gen.G, where he was one of the lowest-rated players in the match.

On the other hand, the rookie on LOUD, qck, heavily underperformed in the elimination series. This performance could be attributed to his inexperience on the big stage that showed at the wrong time.

Lower Bracket Final Versus Sentinels

Though Paper Rex can celebrate their victory over LOUD, the job is not done yet. They have another tough opponent in the form of Sentinels, who had just lost their Upper Bracket match against Gen.G.

Unlike the previous matches, the date between Sentinels and Paper Rex will be played in a Best of 5 format, meaning it will be the only match tomorrow. The winner will take on Gen.G in the Grand Final in another Best of 5 series.
