A short while ago, Sebastien “Ceb” Debs decided to form a new Dota 2 team together with his friend, Johan “N0tail” Sundstein.

Three other high-level players were invited to join them:

  • Arif “MSS” Anwar
  • Volodymyr “No[o]ne” Minenko
  • Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen

This is a formidable roster that could potentially wreak havoc in Division II of Western Europe and maybe even in Division I. But first they need to survive the open qualifiers and secure a spot in the second division.

Old G’s potential

Old G, despite the fact that Ceb wants to make it look like an old boys’ team, is actually a very strong team. With the exception of the French player, everyone is still quite young and probably motivated to win some tournaments.

In his recent interviews, Ceb stated that the roster will only train sporadically and will compete without any real objective. But who’s going to believe his claims, when he’s a two-time TI champion, and two other members of his team were with him when he won the Aegis of Champions twice with OG?

Expectations and controversy

As for No[o]ne and MSS, both of them know what it means to win Majors or at least play in Grand Finals of Majors. The Ukrainian player finished fifth-sixth at The International twice. MSS also has experience at this competitive level and his best placement was seventh-eight.

The reason why both of them agreed to join Ceb in his side project is that they probably believe in what this team could achieve. No doubt, the start will be slow. But as soon as Ceb and N0tail start to take it seriously, this team will almost certainly end up playing in Division I.

But at that point, there will be a problem. Because OG is also competing in this division. It will be interesting to see how Valve decides to deal with the situation. Will it turn a blind eye? Or will it act to ensure the integrity of the Dota 2 esports scene?

Nobody believes for a second that someone like Ceb or N0tail would arrange matches. But it’s still weird to see them compete against their own brand. In traditional sports, this type of scenario is unthinkable.

That aside, Old G are currently competing in the open qualifiers for DPC 2023 and they seem to be doing well. Right now, they’re in the quarterfinals and the path to the Grand Final seems extremely easy for a team of their caliber.
