New Assassin’s Creed Game Leaked: Assassin’s Creed Red

A new mainline entry set in feudal Japan has long been desired by Assassin’s Creed fans. Last year Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed: West Edition granting their wishes. Codename Red at their Ubisoft Forward event in September 2022. But the developer has remained mum on details for the franchise’s much anticipated feudal Japan setting entry ever since. That’s, up till now. A massive leak has leaked a bunch of new gameplay details for Assassin’s Creed Red.

The information has leaked from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, an industry Insider. His report outlines some of the biggest changes and additions we can expect from Assassin’s Creed Red when it finally launches.

Assassin’s Creed Engine Change Brings Ray Tracing

One of the leak’s biggest changes is that Assassin’s Creed Red will use an iteration of Ubisoft’s internal Anvil engine – called the Anvil Pipeline. This engine iteration is reportedly the first in the Assassin’s Creed franchise to support ray tracing.

The standardization of the engine across Ubisoft’s AC development studios is a step in the direction of simplifying future work on future installments of the beloved franchise. Up until now, the various Assassin’s Creed teams have worked on their independent branches of the Anvil engine. Transitioning to a unified engine foundation will theoretically allow for shorter development cycles moving forward.

Overhaul of Complete Animation and Parkour System

But the move to the new Anvil Pipeline engine is also forcing Ubisoft to remaster some core Assassin’s Creed systems from scratch that haven’t been updated in 10 years. This includes a rework of the franchise’s character animations and parkour system.

The Assassin’s Creed parkour system has largely remained static since the series premiered in 2007. So, a full rework of the parkour mechanics is huge and should breathe new life into the franchise’s traversal mechanics.

Other key systems like dynamic weather are also getting redesigned for the new engine according to the leak. These under-the-hood changes seem to be laying the technological groundwork for Assassin’s Creed Red and all future entries in the series for years to come.

Assassin’s Creed Red Combat Gory Like Valhalla

As for Assassin’s Creed Red’s combat, the leak suggests it will be similar to 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. That means we should expect some bloody, gory kills involving decapitation and dismemberment from heavy attacks and finishers. Valhalla’s heavy viking combat showcased some of the most intense and gruesome battle sequences in the franchise to date. It seems Red will be following in those bloody footsteps.

The leak also teases some new stealth gameplay options coming in Red. These include the ability to extinguish torches to create pockets of darkness, hide in foliage for camouflage, and utilize a grappling hook inspired by 2019’s Sekiro: You need to play Shadows Die Twice to get to these new areas.

More Customization for Hideouts and Settlements

Another revealing detail is that Assassin’s Creed Red will extend Valhalla’s Settlement system with a more populated and customizable Hideout hub. The interior and exterior of players’ hideout buildings will reportedly be decorated by players. You’ll be able to select everything from roof designs down to how you want to arrange your gear and weapon displays inside each structure.

The ability to craft and customize a hideout base was a great addition in Valhalla and giving players even more freedom to personalize that space in Red is an exciting prospect.

When will we actually get Assassin’s Creed Red? Well, Henderson’s sources and a number of other insiders and leaks have told us the game is targeting a November 2024 release.

Release Timing Leaks and Rumors

Some additional evidence pointing towards a late 2024 launch for Red includes:

– A leaked LinkedIn post from a Ubisoft employee last year that mentioned “the biggest blockbuster for 2024” before being edited.

– Industry insider BunnyTheVillain claimed on Twitter that a world premiere trailer would arrive in May 2024 with a gameplay showcase at the Ubisoft Forward event in July 2024 ahead of a November 2024 release date.

– Ubisoft’s own third-quarter fiscal year 2024 financial report stated that both Star Wars Outlaws and “Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, set in the long-awaited feudal Japan universe” would be released sometime between April 2024 and March 2025.

With Ubisoft’s report also mentioning they’ll reveal more on their 2024-2025 lineup publicly in May, all of the pieces seem to be falling into place for an Assassin’s Creed Red reveal in the coming months followed by a late 2024 launch.

Other Red Rumors: Potential Protagonists and Time Travel

A potential release window is already starting to form, but other key details about Assassin’s Creed Red’s story and gameplay are still unknown. There have been rumors of two leads – the legendary African samurai Yasuke, and the 16th-century ninja Fujibayashi Naoe, daughter of master shinobi Fujibayashi Nagato.

There have also been rumors that some kind of time travel may be included to let players experience several different historical periods across feudal Japan. Of course, those are rumors for right now that can not be verified.

Whatever the characters or periods it ultimately depicts, Assassin’s Creed Red is set to return to the series’ core gameplay and technology after more than a decade. The prospect of seamlessly parkour-ing across feudal Japan with ray-traced visuals and revamped free-running is enough to have fans buzzing with excitement already.
