According to publisher Warner Bros. Games and developer Player First Games, the Multiversus open beta will end on June 25, 2023, before the game’s official launch in early 2024.

Warner Bros.’s free-to-play platform fighting title, MultiVersus will go offline on June 25 after almost a year from launch. The developers thanked the players for participating in the open beta as they shared the news via the title’s official Twitter account.

After the test, the game will be unavailable for at least six months as Player First Games makes necessary adjustments to make it ready for a full launch in early 2024. The matchmaking, progression system, and net code of the game will all be improved by Player First Games, and new ways for players to connect online will also be made available.

All progress and previously acquired items, such as Gleamium, Battle Pass tokens, character tickets, and other in-game goodies, will remain intact in MultiVersus when it makes a comeback in early 2024.  The game will be removed from digital stores much earlier, on April 4, which is also the day when Gleamium, MultiVersus’ in-game money, would no longer be available for purchase.

Anyone who downloaded MultiVersus before the April 4 cutoff date can still play it. After the game goes down in June, players will still have a limited amount of offline access to local matches and characters as well as The Lab training facility.

MultiVersus open beta overview:

With a peak of over 143,000 participants on Steam on day one and increasing to 153,433 the following day, the MultiVersus open beta that was released in July 2022 saw immediate success. A month after the game’s release, more than 20 million people had already downloaded and played it, indicating the game had a solid foundation upon which the title can grow rapidly with a few adjustments.

But, since then, there has been a sharp decline in the number of daily peak players, which last month dipped below 1,000 for the first time. One reason for the fall in players could be Season 2’s content, which received underwhelming reactions from the community. Only two new characters were included in Season 2, compared to five in the first season of the game.

The message from the creators indicates a willingness to make improvements going ahead and an intention to bring new characters and exciting updates. Once the Open Beta is over, the developers also want to consider changing MultiVersus’ present progression structure as well as improving other aspects of the title.
