Following months of anticipation, new information regarding the  2023’s Call of Duty game has emerged, indicating that the game would be a Modern Warfare 2 successor.

Despite earlier reports claiming that Activision decided not to release a new Call of Duty game in 2023, it now appears that the publisher is continuing the Modern Warfare series with a new title. Activision’s Call of Duty franchise will continue with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in 2023, according to reports from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson.

What we know about Modern Warfare 3

According to the report, the Modern Warfare 2 campaign map Las Almas will serve as Modern Warfare 3’s official battle royale map. The map, which consists primarily of mountainous terrain and forest-like regions, is located on the north side of Mexico, close to the Texas border. The report will include all the features they want from a mainline Call of Duty game, like a new campaign, a comprehensive selection of multiplayer modes, a PvE zombies survival mode, and fresh Warzone 2 seasonal content.

Call of Duty 2023’s content is still widely undefined, but given that Ranked Play was just introduced in Moder Warfare II, players can anticipate the return of a Ranked Mode in Modern Warfare 3 as well. Vladimir Makarov, one of the greatest Call of Duty villains, made an appearance at the conclusion of the MW2 campaign, which suggests that he will likely take center stage in the MW3 campaign.

The report also suggests Modern Warfare 3 is being developed primarily at Sledgehammer Games, the company behind Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty WWII, with assistance from Activision’s other studios like Infinity Ward. The map will be made available in MW3 with the launch of Season 1 if this report is accurate, which is very likely to be given the news source’s track record of accurate reporting.

Activision has been pretty quiet regarding this new Call of Duty game up until this point, but it is reported that the publisher will officially unveil Modern Warfare 3 in August. Henderson mentions two beta weekends scheduled for October 2023 and a campaign early access in November, anticipating a Modern Warfare 2-like release. Following this, MW3 will ultimately have a formal release in early November, with the game’s alleged debut date being November 10.

According to Insider Gaming, the full calendar for MW3 is as follows:

  • MW3 Beta Weekend 1 October 6 to October 10.
  • MW3 Beta Weekend 2: October 12 to October 16.
  • MW3 Campaign Early Access: November 2, 2023
  • MW3 full release: November 10, 2023
  • Season 1: December 5, 2023
