At the start of CCT Online Finals #5, there were two teams on everyone’s favorites list. These two teams, who were expected to play in the Grand Finals, were G2 Esports and BIG.

The first got eliminated relatively early, thanks in part to Aurora Gaming and Guild Eagle’s excellent performance, but also because of its own lack of cohesion. Every player on G2’s roster is exceptional. But there’s no solid game plan at this point. That plan will need to be built and optimized in the coming months.

With G2 out of the race, winning the trophy was a mere formality for BIG, who did not lose a single map during the entire tournament.

BIG’s path to the title

BIG started CCT Online Finals #5 with a match against Zero Tenacity, a team made up of Serbian and Bosnian players that’s not even in the top 50. BIG still struggled to win on Anubis (13 – 11) but had an easy time on Vertigo (13 – 7). The best player on the server was mantuu, whose personal score was 38 – 23 / 1.48.

In the second match, BIG faced a much tougher opponent, who ended up eliminating G2 in the lower bracket and whose final position in the tournament was 3rd. Guild Eagles fought hard but couldn’t stop BIG. The scores were 13 – 9 on Vertigo and 13 – 9 on Ancient. Once again, the Germans were carried by their Polish player mantuu, whose record was amazing: 51 – 24 / 1.72.

In the upper bracket semifinals, BIG played against 9Pandas and had a surprisingly easy match: 13 – 8 on Overpass and 13 – 5 on Ancient. Almost everyone from BIG played well, but prosus was stellar: 40 – 23 / 1.50.

The next two matches were played by BIG against the same opponent, Aurora Gaming. The first match was extremely easy and was over much faster than the viewers wanted: 8 – 13 on Ancient and 5 – 13 on Nuke. This time, it was Krimbo’s turn to carry and cover himself in glory: 40 – 12 / 1.75.

In the Grand Final, Aurora gave some signs that they had learned a lesson or two from the previous defeat, but it was simply not enough. The final scores were 13 – 9 on Inferno and 13 – 8 on Ancient. Once again, prosus and Krimbo played incredibly well and carried BIG to a well-deserved trophy.
