Microsoft delivers on promise to bring CoD titles to cloud gaming

The recent integration of three modern “Call of Duty” titles into NVIDIA’s Geforce NOW streaming service marks a significant development in cloud gaming.

As of November 30, 2023, players can access “Modern Warfare 3” (2023), “Modern Warfare 2” (2022), and “Call of Duty: Warzone” on Geforce NOW. This move, part of Microsoft’s fulfillment of promises from the Activision-Blizzard deal, allows gamers to play these high-end FPS titles without the need for large downloads or powerful hardware.

Geforce NOW’s cloud gaming service, which also supports mobile phone play with a Backbone One controller, eliminates hardware constraints, making these games more accessible. Additionally, the service plans to include legacy “Call of Duty” titles in its library.

There are different membership tiers for Geforce NOW.

The free tier offers basic gameplay with one-hour session limits. The Priority membership, at $9.99 monthly or $49.99 for six months, provides RTX support. For a more enhanced experience, the Ultimate tier is available at $19.99 per month or $99.99 for six months, featuring servers with Geforce RTX 4080 cards, DLSS 3 support, top-tier ray tracing, Reflex, and more.

Geforce NOW’s library currently includes over 1,500 games, with new additions each week. In December, over 50 new games are expected to join, including “The Day Before” and “Human Fall Flat.” This expansion indicates NVIDIA’s commitment to growing its cloud gaming platform.

It’s important to note that Microsoft’s plans, announced in August 2023, to sell cloud streaming rights for Activision-Blizzard titles, including “Call of Duty” and “Overwatch,” to Ubisoft, suggest that the availability of these games on Geforce NOW might be temporary. This development underscores the dynamic nature of the cloud gaming industry and the ongoing strategic movements within it.
