The 2023 VCT Masters, Valorant’s second international competition of the upcoming season, will take place in Japan.

The Japanese VALORANT fanbase has exploded over the last twelve months kudos to its displays of fandom at various events. Riot will honor its devoted East Asian followers with a highly explosive international Valorant event. The studio is set to bring Valorant’s esports action to a wider Japanese audience with VCT Masters 2023, which will take place in Tokyo.

This will be VCT 2023’s second international event, after the kick-off event in Brazil from February to March. Riot announced that the Masters will take place somewhere in June, following the conclusion of the inaugural International Leagues, though the dates have not yet been made official.

Riot adds more details on VCT 2023 schedule

Valorant’s competitive structure has undergone a significant transformation in the previous year as a result of developer Riot Games’ decision to introduce a franchise league set of three leagues. With regional leagues, Challenger Leagues, Masters, and LCQ to keep the entire year interested and packed with more action, the 2023 Season will undoubtedly be more captivating and exciting than the seasons before.

Similar to the League of Legends circuit, the Valorant system will pit a predetermined number of teams from each league against one another to advance to the annual global tournaments. LOCK//IN will be the first event of the new season, which will be held in São Paulo in February. It will feature 30 partnered teams from the International Leagues.

The event’s winner will guarantee its region an additional spot in the Masters. For example, if Fnatic wins LOCK/IN, the European League will have four seats available instead of three, but this does not guarantee Fnatic a spot at Masters Tokyo.

Among the remaining 13 teams competing in Masters 2023 Tokyo are the top ten teams in the VCT ecosystem at the end of May and one team from each of the three VCT International Leagues—-the Americas, the EMEA, and the Pacific.

The top teams at the Masters Tokyo will secure their spots in the prestigious Valorant Champions. Others will have a second chance to qualify for the world championship through the July Last Chance Qualifiers. VCT will only host one Masters competition this year, however, Riot has confirmed that VCT will continue to host two Masters competitions starting in 2024.

VCT 2023 schedule:

  • February 14 to March 5: Kickoff Tournament LOCK//IN
  • March 26 to May 28: International League Split
  • June: Masters 2023 Tokyo
  • July: Last Chance Qualifiers
  • August: Valorant Champions 2023
