As rumored in recent months, the Florida Mutineers bid farewell to their history within the Call of Duty League. Instead, they agreed with Spanish esports organization Team Heretics to stay afloat. As a result, we have Miami Heretics joining the CDL in the spot previously occupied by the Mutineers.

This news only confirms the many rumors that surfaced several months ago. However, everything was in a sepulchral silence, and we even thought this move would not happen. Now that everything is a fact, it also means the return of Team Heretics to the Call of Duty League.

It is expected that, with this new deal and new sponsorship opportunities, Miami Heretics will have a great performance in the upcoming Call of Duty League season.

Miami Heretics Announce Entry into the Call of Duty League

Team Heretics and the Florida Mutineers signed a partnership agreement, and, as a result, the CDL franchise will be renamed the Miami Heretics starting next season. This long-awaited move came last Thursday, August 24, 2023, when Team Heretics celebrated its #7 birthday.

As rumored several months ago, the Miami Heretics will keep only one player from the Mutineers’ previous lineup: Spaniard Javier “Vikul” Milagro. Likewise, it is worth noting that the team will have a completely Iberian lineup since the rest of the players will be Spaniards:

  • Alejandro “Lucky” Lopez
  • Adrian “MettalZ” Serrano
  • Juan Antonio “JurNii” González Muñoz

For those of us who have followed the CDL for several years, these last three names sound familiar, and a lot since they were part of the Heretics CoD lineup in the 2019 season during Black Ops 4.

Finally, Adrian “MettalZ” Serrano completes the team’s lineup as a substitute player, and Jorge “MethodZ” Bancells as the Head Coach of the team.

Movement expected since May

As we mentioned several months ago, in May, rumors began about the merger between the Florida Mutineers and Team Heretics. However, it was not until now that this was confirmed, but there is no doubt that these three months were full of doubts since different brands were abandoned in July.

However, it all came to fruition, and Misfit Gaming Group (owners of the Mutineers) and Team Heretics reached a partnership agreement. Moreover, this is the second major agreement between these two esports organizations, as let’s remember that, in July 2022, Misfit sold its place in the LEC to the Spanish organization.

During the last four seasons in the Call of Duty League, the Mutineers could not show their full potential, as they were not the most consistent team. However, in the 2020 season, they won 3 Home Series tournaments and, in addition, took home $175,000 from the CDL Championship. Since then, the team has fallen apart, as they have failed to win any tournaments and did not qualify for the last two editions of the CDL Championship.
