One of the most popular esports organizations in NA, M80, surprised many in the community by changing their CS2 lineup at this point in the season. Adam “WolfY” Andersson was released by M80 after only five months as the team’s starting AWPer.

This move comes as quite a surprise, considering that the squad only had 5 months together, so it is only now that the fruits of it can be seen. Also, CS2 has very little time with us, and the adaptation period to new teammates and a new game may have affected WolfY’s performance a bit.

In any case, M80 is now searching for a new AWPer for the upcoming tournaments the team will play.

M80 announces the departure of WolfY

Through a post on its official Twitter/X account, M80 announced that WolfY is no longer part of the starting roster of its CS2 team.

As we can see, M80 thanks WolfY for contributing to his new Counter-Strike project throughout these months on the team.

On the other hand, according to a report from the popular web portal HLTV.org, M80 would be interested in signing Fritz “slaxz-” Dietrich, who is currently the starting AWPer of ALTERNATE aTTaX. During the current season, slaxz- has undoubtedly been the mainstay of his team’s lineup, as he has an outstanding 1.20 Rating, according to HLTV.

On the other hand, if this move is completed, M80 will undoubtedly add a player with mind-blowing firepower who will undoubtedly help them in their fight to be at the top of NA.

The AWP and its impact on CS2

We have already enjoyed several Tier 1 tournaments in the CS2 competitive scene and still don’t know the AWP’s role or real impact in the new game.

Unlike CS:GO, everything indicates that in CS2, you don’t need an indispensable or dominant AWPer. With the new MR12 format, we have fewer rounds played, so the game’s economy when buying an AWP significantly affects the development of the match.

In addition, let’s also remember that CS2 still has some bugs regarding sub-ticks and shot registration. This undoubtedly makes hitting 1 shot with an AWP a bit more complicated.

M80 gets stronger with slaxz-

If M80 confirms the signing of slaxz, they will undoubtedly be adding a spectacular and highly talented player to their roster. Also, for the “price” of transfers in the current Counter-Strike market, M80 is getting to sign slaxz- practically for free, so building a solid lineup without investing a lot of money may be the key to the organization’s success.

So far, M80 has not shown its full potential in Tier 1 tournaments; that is clear. The team failed to qualify for the Thunderpick World Championship 2023 and did not win a single match in the ESL Pro League S18 (played on CS:GO). However, in this new CS2 era, the team is expected to improve and position itself as one of the best in NA.
