At the start of 2022, m0NESY joined G2 Esports and officially began his tier-1 Counter-Strike career. He was not even 18 years old but already a superstar in the making with more than 15.000 hours of practice.

Throughout the season, his results went from good to great, and G2 benefited from his excellent form. The team won important trophies like BLAST: Premier World Final. Then, in 2023, G2 won IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne, two of the most prestigious events of the year.

During this time, m0NESY matured and became one of the best players of his generation. At the moment, he’s on his way to finishing 2023 in the top five at the individual level. For now, he’s won the Esports Play of the Year award for his ace against Astralis at IEM Cologne.

That scene was a masterclass in CS2 skill and fully deserved to win the award. In it, m0NESY started the ace with an AWP kill followed by four Desert Eagle kills. Most Astralis players didn’t even get to react to what was happening.

Of course, m0NESY has had many other great moments in Counter-Strike. This wasn’t his first ace and certainly won’t be his last. He has at least 12 more years to show the world what he can do, and all of them will be spent in the new iteration of Counter-Strike. As a fan of this esport, all of that action should be fun to watch.

Other competitors

M0NESY wasn’t the only one nominated for the Esports Play of the Year award. But he was the only CS2 player on the list. The fact that he won is a huge plus not just for him but for the game as well. It’s always nice to be represented by exceptional players and to have your game popularized by them. Valve probably celebrated m0NESY’s victory.

Other players who would have deserved to win the award are Abed from Blacklist International, who had an incredible moment in a high-level Dota 2 match, and Joyo from Moist Esports, who scored a phenomenal goal in Rocket League.

Among the 30 awards offered in total at the Esports Awards this year, m0NESY’s was not exactly the most prestigious, but it was probably the most entertaining. Because for esports fans, moments like the ones he created matter a lot.
