LGD Gaming had a good season in 2023. The team won two of the three DPC Tours in China, placed 3rd at The International 12 and DreamLeague S20, and finished 9th – 12th at Riyadh Masters, ESL One Berlin Major, and the Lima Major. At the Bali Major, they were 5th – 6th.

All things considered, these were not bad results. The only problem is that the prize pools have gotten so low that even this level of performance was not enough to help the team earn that much money.

They did get around $800.000 for the entire season, but high-caliber players have high salaries. Add to that the transportation costs and many other expenses, and the whole thing quickly becomes unprofitable.

Another thing to keep in mind is that PSG decided to exit its partnership with LGD this year. That’s why the team’s name went back to LGD Gaming. For an organization of LGD’s level, it shouldn’t be hard to find a new partnership, possibly even with a regional company that sells peripherals or some other computer-related equipment.

LGD’s new roster

After The International 12, LGD lost two players. NothingToSay was transferred to Invictus Gaming, and planet was benched. What’s strange is that on the same “bench” sits one of the best carry players in the history of the game: Ame. However, he has not announced his intention to return to competing.

For an entire year, he’s been out of the game. Not entirely, because he still plays pubs. But he no longer takes part in tournaments. Ame is only 26, so he could easily come back. But the game has changed a lot since he left, so he’ll need to adjust everything he knows to the new map format and elements.

In the meantime, LGD needed two players to replace the ones who are no longer on the active roster. They brought in Emo and Pyw from Invictus Gaming. Both of these players are highly skilled. The first is nearly 23 years old while the second is 29. Experience won’t be a problem here. But what might end up causing LGD to fail is a lack of superstars.

The new roster seems to rely a bit too much on y`s prowess. Being a former TI champion with Wings Gaming, he is certainly a giant who knows exactly how to draft to win games. But he still needs teammates who can implement his ideas.
