Streamer xQc Leaves Sentinels After 18 Months

Popular streamer and former Overwatch professional xQc has ended his time with Sentinels, having joined the North American organisation in February last year. Felix “xQc” Lengyel parted ways with Sentinels on good terms, with the 24-year-old putting the decision down to his wish to “pursue new opportunities”.

Having arrived at Sentinels as both a streamer and a substitute on their Overwatch Contenders team Gladiators Legion’s roster, xQc was able to grow his viewership significantly, with his development as a content creator meaning that he now averages over 40,000 viewers per stream. In fact, xQc actually peaks at 50,000+ with each Twitch broadcast, making him one of the most popular Overwatch streamers.

Why xQc Has Decided to Leave Sentinels

Figures for both Lengyel’s followers gained and hours watched continue to rise, meaning that it perhaps comes as a surprise that the Canadian has decided a fresh start is needed. A recent report concluded that xQc is in fact back at the top of the standings when it comes to individual viewership, something he has achieved for the first time since 2019. Having amassed some 13 million hours on Twitch in July 2020 alone, his growth on YouTube has been a little more difficult. Despite this, the former Denial Esports and Dallas Fuel player is closing in on 1 million subscribers, while he also has over 380 million views on the platform.

Sentinels have had their say on the matter too, having allowed xQc to leave immediately. The North American team released a statement stating the following: “While we hate to see xQc leave, we couldn’t be more excited about his future. His time as a Sentinel was cherished by everyone in the organization, and we know he will continue to find success in whatever he does next. We’ll always be there in chat spamming xQc.”

What xQc Has Achieved in His Career to Date

xQc’s Esports career began with team Q? back in 2016, before he was quickly picked up by Denial Esports. His first success came at the Rivalcade Weekly 3 North America, which was followed by two consecutive tournament wins. Upon Denial Esports disbanding, xQc continued to compete on the same roster under the name YIKES!, which would later become Arc 6. Here, he helped the team in reaching the Overwatch Contenders 2017: Season Zero.

xQc joined Dallas Fuel in 2017, becoming the ninth and final member of their Overwatch roster. It was here when Lengyel received his first ban from the Overwatch League, as a result of comments made surrounding Outlaw’s Muma, with the Canadian also receiving a $4,000 fine. Another ban was picked up in 2018, this time for four games due to the use of the TriHard 7 emote. It was also around this time that xQc placed more of an emphasis on streaming.
