Riot Games continues to listen to the League of Legends community, even more so after the recent extensive criticism they have received. After extending the LCS co-streaming for 2023, the LEC joined this change only for the Spanish channels.

The LEC officially partnered with KOI and Team Heretics a few hours ago to offer co-streams of their matches from January 21 to February 20. This has been announced on the LEC’s official Twitter channel.

A historic event for the LEC

The esports division of League of Legends, LoL Esports, has taken it upon itself to announce that KOI and Team Heretic will participate in a co-streaming program that could be expanded to other teams and languages in the future.

This is a historic move for competitive League of Legends. With this, Riot Games has authorized both KOI and Team Heretics to stream their matches in Spanish. This is an unprecedented move in the LEC. In addition, it will allow former professional commentator and content creator Ibai Llanos (co-owner of KOI) to broadcast his team’s matches live from his Twitch channel.

On the other hand, Team Heretics will also do the same. But in the case of this team, they will do so from the organization’s official Twitch channel. Both channels will likely attract a large audience, as many Spanish-speaking fans follow the LEC.

Ibai is still on fire on his Twitch

Over the past few days, Ibai has averaged an audience of 100,000 viewers, and this is likely to increase during KOI’s first few matches in the LEC. In addition, it is worth noting that Ibai has been active in the Kings League, a soccer league of Streamers that he created with former FC Barcelona player Gerard Piqué.

This agreement between LEC, KOI, and Team Heretics will allow the teams to broadcast their matches in Spanish throughout the winter and the group stage. On the other hand, they will not be able to do so in the playoffs, as these begin when the agreement expires.

Riot Games said:

“We will closely monitor the rollout and success of these co-streams. Provided the co-streams are successful, we will certainly be open to expanding the program to include more co-streams of LEC teams in different languages in the future.”

What languages could be next

There is no doubt that the following language that could be included would be French. This is because Team Vitality and BDS are two of the best teams in this country. On the other hand, it could also be in Danish with Astralis and German with SK Gaming.

The LEC is doing this experiment because of what happened in the LEC Summer Split 2022. The Spanish stream had the most simultaneous viewers, second only to English.

We should also note that the 2022 LEC Summer Split was one of the worst-performing overall viewership compared to previous years. This may have been due to recent changes in the LEC format and the decision to open the joint stream to a local language during the regular season.

As mentioned, the LEC’s 2023 winter season kicks off on January 21 with the match between G2 Esports and Excel Esports at 11:00 CET.
