With the start of the 2023 season, viewers have been eagerly awaiting broadcasts of the League of Legends (LOL) League Championship Series (LCS) and the League European Championship (LEC).

Both leagues have a large and passionate following, but the LCS and LEC are different entities. Each has its own format, rules, and different audience figures.

In the first month of the 2023 season, it is interesting to compare the ratings of the LCS and LEC; read on to find out which of the two leagues is more popular.

LEC is more popular than LCS

During the first month of the 2023 season, the LEC averages more than twice as many viewers as the LCS.

In the competitive League of Legends, numerous leagues are approaching their midpoint, and, as usual, North American and European fans are gearing up to rekindle their rivalry. Unfortunately for LCS fans, the LEC has beaten them by more than double in the first four weeks of play in total viewership.

LCS viewers

The LCS Winter Split 2023 has been a very competitive season with a large audience. According to Esports Charts, the LCS averaged 109,000 viewers across all broadcasts in the first month. This is an impressive figure considering the number of games in the LCS. For example, the peak LCS audience was 178,000 viewers for the Cloud9 vs. 100 Thieves matchup.

LEC viewers

The LEC Winter Split 2023 has been an exciting season, with some of the best teams in Europe competing for the championship. According to Esports Charts, the LEC averaged 288,000 viewers across all streams in the first month. This is a substantial increase over the LCS figures, showing that the LEC has more viewers. The LEC’s peak viewership was a staggering 486,000 viewers for the KOI vs. Team Heretics showdown.

LEC Winter Split 2023 has more viewers than LCS

Several factors have contributed to the higher viewership of the LEC compared to the LCS. First, the LEC has a more consistent format than the LCS, which makes it easier for viewers to follow the action.

This has allowed the LEC to attract more viewers, providing them with a more structured and organized viewing experience. Every match matters, and every week is a must-watch for fans, as clubs can be eliminated from championship contention.

In addition, LEC teams are more established and have a larger following than LCS teams. This has allowed the LEC to attract more spectators, as the teams have more followers.

On the other hand, the LCS is still getting used to its new Thursday and Friday broadcast days. The league kicks off at 16.00 CT, which may be inconvenient for some NA viewers and EU fans who want to watch. As a result, it will be difficult for the LCS to compete with the LEC in viewership, even though the level of competition has likely improved.
