The 2023 League of Legends season is already underway in all competitive leagues worldwide. This week, the LVP Superliga started in Spain, and now we have one of the most important leagues in the world, the Korean league.

Start of the LCK

The LCK raised the curtain on the 2023 season last Wednesday with two great games between teams called to be the best in the world this year. The first hour saw Dplus KIA and DRX face-off, while Gen.G and T1 closed out the first day in a rematch of the 2022 Summer Split final.

Dplus KIA started with a bang by crushing the reigning world champions, DRX, with a resounding 2-0. T1 replicated the same result in their game against Gen.G.

The return to the LCK servers was marked by Dplus KIA’s significant overhaul of the Worlds champion and a splendid performance by Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok for T1’s victory.

Dplus KIA beats reigning champions

What better way to kick off an LCK season than with the reigning champions taking on another of the world’s great teams? On one side, we have DRX, winners of Worlds 2022 with a historic performance. On the other, Dplus KIA is a team that arrives to renew its DWG KIA image and with Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu at his highest level in their ranks.

Notably, Deft showed no mercy against the team that gave him his world title.

With a spectacular performance using the champion duo Lucian – Nami, Dplus KIA debuted with Deft in the best possible way. A rebuilt DRX could do almost nothing from the hand of Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee to save themselves from defeat. Dplus KIA crushed mentioned DRX with a score of 2-0 and in a very loose manner.

We must mention Kim “Canna” Chang-dong in his debut with Dplus KIA. The former T1 toplaner was vital to the team’s victory with a double choice of the champion Gnar.

There is no doubt that Dplus KIA has shown its cards at the start of the season, and we are confident that they will be strong contenders to win it all this season.

T1 and Faker destroy Gen.G

On the other hand, it wasn’t a good start to the season for the reigning LCK champions, Gen.G. In a rematch of the LCK 2022 Summer Split, Gen.G, and T1 closed out the first day of competition.

To Gen.G fans’ bad news, the outcome would not be similar to that summer final. Instead, this time it would be Faker’s team who would come out the winner of the duel with an incredible performance of the midlaner.

T1’s Korean League of Legends superstar kicked off the 2023 LCK on the right foot, standing out in the debut victory. Faker shined with Azir and Lissandra to put Gen.G’s victory out of the question.

On the other hand, Gen.G’s signings left good sensations. Especially Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan, the 17-year-old promising shooter, but this was not enough for the team.

With this, T1 starts on the right foot, and it seems that losing three finals in 2022 did not sit well with Faker. Nevertheless, the three-time world champion has given a monster first performance, confirming that the T1 team will remain among the Korean and world elite in 2023.
