The recent study conducted by Fair Betting Sites shows a sharp drop in the growth of the Twitch streaming platform in 2022.

The results of the study show that Twitch, the world’s leading streaming platform, saw a sharp drop in growth in 2022 due to declining viewership, channels, and average viewing hours.

With YouTube and other competition promoting their platforms like never before, the question is how much it affects Twitch’s annual growth.

Read on for the highlights of the study.

Twitch’s average viewership was down 7% year-over-year

According to the study, Twitch’s most active channels did not increase their viewership over the past year.

Streaming Graph data showed Twitch’s average viewership dropped by 30.9 million in 2022. This is a decrease of more than 7%.

This is the first time the average Twitch audience has fallen since 2018, when Streaming Graph started collecting the data.

Twitch channels dropped 13% in 2022

In 2022, there was also a notable decrease in the average number of Twitch channels 2022. Compared to 2021, the drop in channels was 13.1%.

The question is, will the other platforms, such as YouTube and TikTok, manage to unseat Twitch as the number one streaming venue?

Hours watched decreased in 2022 after a significant increase in 2021

The streaming platform saw an increase of almost double the hours viewed in 2020. During the Covid-19 pandemic, people sought to escape and occupy their free time.

In 2021 the growth was not as much as the previous year, but the numbers were still positive, with an increase of 29.6%. Unfortunately, in 2022 there was a decrease of 6.7%.

Even with more channels active, hours watched suffered a decline last year. So, it wasn’t all bad the previous year for Twitch; in some respects, it is still going strong.

Twitch active channels grow in 2022

Active channels continue to grow, with a 6% increase reaching over 49 million in 2022. This means that the platform’s content creator base is growing. Moreover, the average number of viewers per channel increases for the third consecutive year.

Despite the overall drop in average viewership, 2022 was a good year for Twitch streamers. After growth, the average number of viewers per channel is 17.1%, marking a positive increase for the third year.

On the other hand, Twitch users broke the record for streams in 2022. According to the data, 441,569 games were streamed on the platform, which translates into an 18.4% increase in games streamed.
