North America dominated the ALGS 2023 Split One Playoffs, with TSM taking first place and NRG taking second place. EMEA was the second-best zone despite losing key players and teams due to travel limitations and visa issues.

Although many are interested in returning for the second half of the competition year, one of the mainstays of EMEA has opted to drop out due to a known problem that is hurting the scene.

Invictus Gaming leaves Apex Legends scene

After three years, Invictus Gaming is leaving the competitive Apex Legends, according to a statement made on February 20 by the organization. Announcing its list of departures from the team

  • Jake “Jmw” Walters
  • Martin “Graceful” Wongphrom
  • Brrynn “brynn” Corbet

About Invictus Gaming

On August 29, 2021, Invictus Gaming became a member of Apex for the first time by acquiring the roster of Endeavour. They had previously finished sixth in the 2021 EMEA Split One Championship. Invictus Gaming experienced varying degrees of success overseas, placing 31st in the 2022 Split Two playoffs and 19th in that year’s Championship.

In its most recent competition, Invictus Gaming finished 30th after being eliminated in the second round of the loser’s bracket after earning a spot in the 2023 Split One Playoffs with a sixth-place domestic finish in the Pro League.

Worrying exit for EMEA

Invictus Gaming’s departure sets a worrying trend for EMEA and the rest of the competitive scene. Numerous North American teams left in the previous Split, notably Team Liquid, Cloud9, G2 Esports, and Spacestation Gaming.

Of the 30 EMEA teams scheduled to compete in Split Two, 10 teams have not signed their rosters; and only one new organization has entered EMEA since Split One.

Team store skins from previous championships were sold, and a portion of the proceeds was given to the participating groups. Invictus Gaming’s statement coincides with previous complaints from teams about EA’s lack of support for the ALGS and its subsequent decision to drop it altogether.

SSG CEO Shawn Pellerin commented:

“It’s difficult to justify continuing to invest without a reasonable rev share arrangement to aid with sustainability.”

Noiises now occupy Invictus Gaming’s spot in the EMEA Pro League for Split Two, Jmw, Graceful, and their coach Anna. However, Noiises has expressed interest in concrete offers from other teams. When Split Two begins on March 11, viewers will have the opportunity to follow the fate of the Invictus Gaming lineup on the official ALGS Twitch and YouTube accounts.
