Important teams that failed to qualify for BetBoom Dacha Dubai

The new Dota 2 season no longer includes Valve’s Dota Pro Circuit. This means that the situation is chaotic again but probably very exciting for teams and organizers alike.

Quite a few $1 million tournaments have been announced and nobody is going to miss the old format because it generated a lot of unexciting events with relatively small prize pools.

BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024 features 12 teams. Seven of them were invited and five more qualified for the tournament. However, Dota 2’s professional circuit has a lot more than 12 strong teams. This means that a lot of good players will need to watch the event from home.

Their next opportunity will come in the second half of February, at Games of the Future 2024, but only if they get invited. That tournament, which will be organized by Games of the Future and will take place in Kazan, Russia, is going to be, almost in its entirety, invitation-based. Of the 16 participants, 14 will receive direct invites.

That, combined with the location, means that anyone who failed to qualify for BetBoom Dacha Dubai will likely get another chance only at DreamLeague S22. The qualifiers for that tournament are currently underway.

Who Is Going to Miss BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024

Among the teams that will not compete in BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024, these are the most prestigious ones:

  • Shopify Rebellion
  • BOOM Esports
  • Team Secret
  • Entity
  • Nigma Galaxy
  • PSG Quest
  • Geek Fam
  • Blacklist International

All of these teams are well-known by Dota 2 fans from around the world. But unfortunately for them, they will not compete in Dubai this February.

Perhaps the most disappointing absence of all is that of Team Secret. Clement “Puppey” Ivanov happened to encounter a relatively strong Tundra Esports in the lower bracket Final of the WEU Qualifier. Before losing that match, they also lost against OG in the upper bracket Final.

The team that eventually won the tournament was OG. They seem to be in excellent shape right now, so they might be able to challenge the likes of Team Spirit, Gaimin Gladiators, and Team Liquid this season.

Another big loss, this time for SEA fans, was Blacklist International. The organization has a lot of fans, and the players themselves, especially Abed “Abed” Yusop and Marc “Raven” Fausto, have also received a lot of support over the years. Their absence from Dubai will probably hurt viewership a bit.

Ideally, Dota 2 tournaments should feature at least 16 teams. With so many great competitors around, 24 would be the ideal number. But 16 is still much better than 12.
