The IEM Sydney Group Stage is ending, and we are just a few hours away from knowing all the teams that have qualified for the playoffs. Things are already completely decided in Group A, as FaZe Clan secured the third and last playoff spot after beating GamerLegion in the Lower Bracket Final by 2-1.

Undoubtedly, it was a somewhat complicated race for FaZe Clan in this Group Stage, as their loss on the tournament’s first day against GL sent them directly to the Lower Bracket. However, the team pulled out the courage, experience, and determination to beat Team Vitality, NaVi, and finally got their revenge against GamerLegion.

On the other hand, GamerLegion said goodbye to the tournament after fighting until the end and leaving Apeks on the road.

Let’s see what happened in the FaZe Clan and GamerLegion match in the IEM Sydney 2023 Group A Lower Bracket Final.

FaZe Clan beat GamerLegion 2-1 to secure their spot in the playoffs

While it is true that FaZe came into this match with a lot of confidence and, above all, with the label of favorites, we all know what the guys from GamerLegion are capable of. However, the experience came to the fore, and the team won the series 2-1 and, in addition, the last spot in Group A for the tournament playoffs.

The series was held at Ancient, Inferno and Nuke.

Ancient

It all started at Ancient, GamerLegion’s map pick, where FaZe Clan had an extremely good performance and determination to take the win.

In the first half, the teams had a spectacular give-and-take that ended with the score tied 6-6. Then, at the change of sides, things remained the same as both FaZe and GL were doing very well in level and performance. However, FaZe Clan could stick out their chests to take the win by 13-11.

Inferno

In Inferno, the tables finally turn as, this time, it was GamerLegion who managed to step up to take the win and even the series 1-1. Throughout the map, GamerLegion had control of the match. However, the FaZe Clan had some chances, and good individual plays from their stars.

In the first half, GamerLegion put up a spectacular defense that led them to an excellent 10-2 partial victory. Frederik “acoR” Gyldstrand was in great play and finished with 131.9 ADR and a 2.20 Rating. Then, at the change of sides, FaZe tried to wake up and win 5 rounds, but they could not complete the comeback and lost by 7-13.

Nuke

Finally, Nuke was the stage that saw FaZe Clan take the last spot in Group A for the IEM Sydney playoffs.

FaZe’s defense consistently took the 7-5 win in the first half. However, at the change of sides, Helvijs “broky” Saukants and Robin “ropz” Kool displayed their full potential to lead their team to an excellent 13-6 victory to seal their qualification to the playoffs.
