How to play Undying in Dota 2 patch 7.33b

Undying had been a strong hero for a long time and was known for his ability to destroy lanes and guarantee easy team-fight victories around key objectives. But Dota 2 patch 7.33 made him even stronger. His Tombstone, apart from being a powerful offensive tool, is now an ideal saving device that acts like a bunker.

Undying’s pick rate is now above 10% and his win rate is ~54%, which is very good. These statistics provided by Dotabuff clearly indicate that a major percentage of the game’s community now favors undying over many other support heroes.

This makes perfect sense considering just how difficult it is to die when playing Undying once you’ve managed to buy a few items. With just a bit of armor and a bit of magic resistance, Undying turns into a veritable tank. And if you play him in the position 3 role, he will completely wreck the enemy team in the first 15-20 minutes of the game.

Undying’s strengths

One of the reasons why Undying is strong in the current meta is that you purchase very cheap items that make you very tanky early on. With less than 5000 gold, you can become ridiculously hard to kill. And on top of that, your abilities make you even more unkillable.

There’s a reason why this hero was called Undying and in this patch, he certainly lives up to his name.

Another reason why Undying is good has to do with the fact that his Tombstone is now upgradeable. If you purchase Aghanim’s Shard, you can use it as a bunker that can save allies from anything, including Enigma’s Black Hole.

This ability now works like Phoenix’s Supernova when it’s upgraded by Aghanim’s Scepter. But there’s a difference. If you destroy the Supernova, both Phoenix and the hero included in it will die. But if you destroy the Tombstone, the hero located inside of it will not die.

In key situations, Tombstone can protect an important hero from eight hero attacks. And if you also use Soul Rip on the Tombstone, it’s more like 15 hero attacks. This means that an entire enemy team will need to spend a few seconds attacking your Tombstone in order to finally expose your ally and start hitting him.

But by the time this happens, your team is usually much better positioned to take the fight.
