How to play Templar Assassin in Dota 2

Templar Assassin is one of the strongest heroes that you can play in the low MMR divisions. If your rank is Legend or lower, mastering this hero is guaranteed to increase your rating by at least a few hundred points. And it’s actually easier than it seems.

What makes TA a formidable hero is her mixture of damage, survivability, and farming speed. As soon as you hit level seven, you can farm any type of jungle camp. And if your team has stacked neutral creeps for you, your item timings will be much better than everyone else’s.

Keys to Playing Templar Assassin

This hero can be played in position one or two and a variety of ways. However, all item builds have one thing in common: damage and attack speed. The initial goal is always to increase your ability to farm quickly. And that requires one farming item such as Desolator, and one mobility item such as Blink Dagger.

Once you’re equipped with these two items, you can go from camp to camp and farm faster than an Anti-Mage equipped with Battle Fury.

Because of her Psy Blades, Templar Assassin farms quickly even without any items. At level seven, she can clear several camps per minute and one creep wave. This translates into 500 gold per minute, which is 20-40% higher than what most heroes can achieve at this stage of the game.

If you get a few kills on top of that, you will actually be around 1000 gold above the enemy carry, which is guaranteed to let you snowball until the mid portion of the game.

If you need to be ready for battle as soon as possible, buy a Diffusal Blade or a Crystallis instead of a Desolator. And your timing will decrease by several minutes. However, don’t skip the dagger unless you’re buying a Dragon Lance instead.

This hero needs either attack range or great mobility to be successful. Otherwise, she’s just a predictable right-clicker that’s easy to kill and dodge.

One of the cool things when playing Templar Assassin is to skip the bottle and simply buy some health and mana regeneration instead. Enchanted Mangos are actually a great idea because of the low cost, HP regen, and instant mana regeneration. Make sure you always have at least three of them in your inventory.

As the late game approaches, a Black King Bar tends to be a very important item on TA. Other than that, it’s up to you. You can opt for high damage or for high survivability. Both of them are nice to have.
