Gen.G, a leading esports organization, has unveiled its revamped roster for the highly anticipated 2024 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) season. The team, known for its dominance, faced uncertainty leading up to the announcement on Nov. 29, which confirmed the re-signing of star mid-laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon for the upcoming season.

Joining him are formidable talents: jungler Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu, support Son “Lehends” Si-woo, top laner Kim “Kiin” Gi-in, and the steadfast bot laner Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan, completing Gen.G’s formidable lineup.

Gen.G’s 2024 LCK Roster and Coaching Overhaul

Gen.G, a professional esports organization, has revealed its new roster for the 2024 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) season. After days of uncertainty, Gen.G announced on Nov. 29 that its star mid-laner, Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, has re-signed for 2024. The organization also signed jungler Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu, support Son “Lehends” Si-woo, and top laner Kim “Kiin” Gi-in. The bot laner Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan, who has been a part of the organization since 2020, will round out Gen.G’s roster for the upcoming season.

Gen.G’s coaching staff has also undergone significant changes. The team will be led by the former T1, Bilibili Gaming, and DRX skipper Kim “Kim” Jung-su, who will be assisted by Kwon “Helper” Young-jae and Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong.

Strategic Shifts and Ambitious Objectives

The announcement of the new roster came after Gen.G announced the departures of Chovy, top laner Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, jungler Han “Peanut” Wang-ho, and support Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong on Nov. 21. The organization also parted ways with the previous head coach Go “Score” Dong-bin and his assistants Won “Mafa” Sang-yeon and Kim “Museong” Moo-seong on the same day.

Gen.G had a successful 2023 season, winning the LCK Spring and Summer Splits. However, the team fell to Bilibili Gaming in the lower bracket semifinal of the Mid-Season Invitational and again at the quarterfinals of the 2023 World Championship. Instead of keeping the team and trying again in 2024, Gen.G decided to part ways with Peanut, Doran, and Delight, who reunited under the Hanwha Life banner for the next season.

With its new roster, Gen.G aims to dominate the domestic scene again in 2024. The team will face stiff competition from T1, who will be coming off a morale boost after winning Worlds. In a statement on Nov. 29, Gen.G stated that the team will embark on 2024 with “optimism and unwavering determination.” It remains to be seen if Chovy and his new teammates will be able to replicate the success of the previous season and claim the LCK title once again.
