Rainbow Six Siege’s first major event of 2023, the Six Invitational 2023, has ended, and we have a new champion: G2 Esports. This marks the end of the R6 season, and teams are already starting to think about what will be the start of a new adventure in the coming weeks.

Ubisoft holds an event of this magnitude every year, and after returning after two years to a LAN event due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the top 20 teams in the world came together to fight for a share of the juicy $3,000,000 prize pool.

G2 Esports takes top honors at the Six Invitational 2023

The Samurai managed to lift the champion’s hammer after four years without being able to do so. In addition, they defeated the favorite team, W7M, in the grand final with an excellent score of 3-1. There is no doubt that G2 Esports was not one of the favorites to win the title; however, they managed to work and make it happen by giving a great lesson on how to play R6.

A few days ago, nobody had this in their mind. Instead, we all saw W7M raising the hammer last Sunday. Then, however, the magic that is esports came back.

G2 Esports managed to give this greatly deserved and nice victory, defeating the tournament favorites with an incredible 3-1. However, the European team managed to be in complete sync throughout the grand final and showed a very serious game in each of the games.

G2 took advantage of Brazilian mistakes

The Samurai came with the mission to give a lethal blow to the Brazilians, so they did. G2 Esports fully exploited the mistakes made by W7M; undoubtedly, several errors catapulted the Brazilians. Finally, however, G2 Esports gave a psychological blow in Kafe Dostoyevsky, the second map chosen by W7M, and with it, they placed the series 2-1 in their favor.

Finally, on the fourth map selected by G2 Esports, Oregon, the Europeans took an 8-6 victory that gave them the right to lift the champion’s hammer in this Six Invitational 2023.

Fabian “Fabian” Hällsten makes History

While G2 lifted the champion’s hammer, and there is no doubt that any R6 team dreams of this moment, the samurai take home no more and no less than $1,000,000. On the other hand, W7M takes home $450,000, which, although it is no small thing, no more and no less, they could not face a European squad that looked far superior to them throughout the final.

Finally, we must highlight that the G2 Esports coach, Fabian, makes history by lifting his third hammer in a Six Invitational. So the coach did it twice as a player and now as a coach.

On the other hand, we must also emphasize that this is the second time that G2 Esports has lifted a trophy of this caliber in R6.

G2 Esports has become a very powerful organization in all the esports in which they participate. Remember that they also recently won the CS:GO IEM Katowice 2023. Furthermore, the organization has been grabbing all the titles in recent months, which speaks of a new global hegemony in esports.
