Just a few hours after the start of the year 2023, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney made an unexpected revelation about the future of Fortnite on mobile devices.

During all the celebrations and fireworks lighting up the Fortnite sky on social media, Sweeney wrote on his official Twitter account:

“Next year on iOS!”

Recall that there was a massive lawsuit between Apple and Epic Games several years ago, and because of that, Fortnite is only available on Android devices.

While it’s a pretty vague statement, and Sweeney didn’t elaborate on the Tweet, this would be a big step for Epic Games if it comes true.

Reality or Optimism by Tim Sweeney

This statement by the Epic Games CEO was short, precise, sweet, and to the point. It is unclear if he was trying to be optimistic or was sharing some first-hand information that was about to happen.

Many people have weighed in on Sweeney’s statement, showing their delight that it is in Epic’s plans to return to the iOS App Store shortly.

Cloud Gaming

As we mentioned, Fortnite has been banned from the App Store for years, so it’s unclear how and when the game will return to iOS devices. While it’s true that players can currently play it through GeForce Now, it’s nothing like it.

Technology and cloud gaming has advanced such that anyone from any device can access great titles, but there’s nothing better than having the game launch directly from the device.

Epic Games and Apple may be negotiating on the sidelines to bring the game back to the store.

Undoubtedly, if Fortnite returns to the App Store, we will have 116 million players or even many more returning to the game. That’s more than a third of the total player base.

Fortnite iOS chapters 2 and 3

It’s no secret that iOS players have time stuck in the past. Currently, Fortnite is at Chapter 4, Season 1 on Android devices, but iOS devices haven’t made it past Chapter 2, Season 3.

The vast majority of iOS players who did not make the switch to other platforms missed many events in the game, such as the introduction of The Foundation, other members of The Seven, The Last Reality’s invasion, The Cube Queen, Chapter 2’s ending, The Herald and much more.

If this news is confirmed, Fornite will return to iOS devices in the current season, i.e., Season 4. Therefore, they will not have a chance to complete Seasons 2 and 3; if Season 4 lasts 12 months, they will return in Season 5.
