North American League of Legends team Dignitas has signed former Overwatch League player Noh “Gamsu” Yeong-jin as their top laner for the upcoming LCS Summer split.

Gamsu had been playing in the 100 Thieves Academy system since his return to League of Legends in 2021. Now, he will play in a major region for the first time since his stint with Fnatic in 2016.

Gamsu returns to pro League

Before Gamsu became an Overwatch player, he was a League of Legends pro. Beginning his career around 2014, the South Korean player spent time on Samsung Blue before joining Dignitas, then Team Dignitas, in 2015. He had two top-four finishes at IEM events before transferring to Fnatic. With the iconic European org, he finished second at the IEM Season X World Championship.

However, following the 2016 EU LCS Summer split, Gamsu announced his retirement in order to pursue a career in the newly released Overwatch. Beginning his journey with CONBOX in South Korea, Gamsu played in the inaugural Overwatch League season in 2018 as part of the Boston Uprising. The following year, he would be part of the Shanghai Dragons team that won Stage 3 of the 2019 season. At the conclusion of the 2020 season, which he spent with the Dallas Fuel, Gamsu announced he would be retiring from Overwatch.

In 2021, he joined the 100 Thieves system. Beginning with their amateur team, 100 Thieves Next, he was promoted to 100 Thieves Academy in September. He was then released following the team’s second-place finish in the Spring 2022 edition of the LCS Proving Grounds.

Now, he returns to Dignitas seven years after initially leaving the team.

Dignitas adjust their roster

Gamsu replaces Aaron “FakeGod” Lee, who left the team in late April. Dignitas finished the LCS Spring split in seventh place, posting an 8-10 record. Gamsu is the second Korean player Dignitas have added this year, after acquiring jungler Kim “River” Dong-woo ahead of the Spring split.

It remains to be seen if Gamsu can be the piece that will push the team into the realm of playoff contention. During the 2022 LCS Academy Spring split, his numbers were underwhelming with the joint fifth-highest KDA, but the lowest average kills among top laners. Furthermore, even though he posted the second-highest average CS per minute, he did not translate into a CS lead at 15 minutes, with an average CS difference at zero.

Gamsu will make his debut when the LCS kicks off on June 18.
