German Counter-Strike: Global Offensive analyst Jan “Swani” Müller has announced his retirement from the professional scene. His last stint was acting as the head coach of world-renowned roster G2 Esports.

Swani began his Counter-Strike career as an analyst in 2015, working with notable organizations like Team Liquid, SK Gaming, NRG Esports, and FURIA. Though he had already worked with household names in the scene, Swani got his big break with G2 Esports in 2019.

Swani worked closely with the coaching staff as the team’s primary analyst in the European organization. However, his efforts were recognized, and he was eventually promoted to the team’s interim coach in late 2021 while the roster was going through coaching changes.

From 2021 to 2022, Swani was swapped from the interim and assistant coaching positions, where he helped the team win the BLAST Premier: World Final 2022 against Team Liquid for $500,000.

After their win in Abu Dhabi, Swani was finally promoted to become the team’s head coach at the start of 2023, a roster move loved by the Counter-Strike community. Immediately, the German’s impact on the team could be felt.

With Swani at the helm, the G2 Esports roster achieved the following results in 2023:

  • 1st place at IEM Katowice 2023
  • 3-4th place at BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2023
  • 1st place at IEM Cologne 2023

This string of results helped G2 become one of the most dominant teams throughout the first half of 2023. Unfortunately, the team’s position at the top of the world ranking was short-lived, as the roster began falling off as the year ended.

Eventually, in December 2023, Swani was replaced by legendary Polish player Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas. Since then, Swani has not returned to the analyst position nor looked for a new team.

After four months of silence, Swani has come out to tweet about his retirement from coaching professional Counter-Strike. During his break, he had much time to think about his next step in the scene. He received many interesting offers from other organizations but ultimately decided to end his career.

He proceeded to mention a loss of passion and an unwillingness to devote most of his time to Counter-Strike. According to Swani, it was mentally and physically draining to act as a team’s coach, as he had to travel to events for over 180 days in the past year, leaving no time to enjoy the comfort of his home.

He ends his announcement by thanking the G2 organization for trusting him and wishes everyone he crossed paths with the best of luck.

The news saddens the community, but Swani received positive feedback and words of encouragement, as he had always been a loved personality within the Counter-Strike scene.

G2 Esports continues its journey with TaZ as the main coach, but the team has yet to find success with the Polish veteran leading the charge.
