After years of speculation, Riot Games’ foray into the fighting game community is finally announced – and it now comes with a new name.
Riot Games announced Friday the release of “2XKO” (pronounced two-ex-kay-oh), its tag-team fighting game heavily based on League of Legends.
For years now, Riot has been transparent about the development of its own fighting game, giving it the codename “Project L.”
The 2v2 tag fighting game is expected on shelves by 2025, with initial playtests scheduled for April 27-29 in Tokyo, Japan.
Tom Cannon, 2XKO’s Executive Producer, said more details will be released in the coming days and weeks.
“We’re going to be talking a lot more on our social channels, sharing in-development work that we want your takes on. Whether it’s gameplay, art, music, or something else, let us know what you want to see and who you want to hear from,” Cannon said in a statement posted on the Riot Games website.
VG247 reported that 2XKO is expected to be a 2D tag fighting game, with each players controlling a pair of characters from the League of Legends. The game, VG247 says, is expected to be a three-button fighter with light, medium, and heavy attack buttons, as well as directional commands for special moves. This gives feels similar to Street Fighter or the Smash Brothers series of games.
2XKO is also expected to be a free-to-play game, and will be made available for the Playstation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and the PC.
