The thrills of Thunderpick World Championship 2023 continue. After two days of action and excitement, Cloud9 and FaZe Clan became the first qualifiers for the playoffs after winning their first two tournament matches.

Cloud9, playing with Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhaylov as a substitute after the departure of Dmitriy “sh1ro” Sokolov, showed excellent determination in the matches played. In the first match against Fnatic, they achieved an excellent 2-1 victory, while in the Winners Match, they applied a reverse sweep against VP to qualify for the playoffs.

On the other hand, FaZe Clan had a somewhat “easier” road as they managed two solid 2-0 wins against SAW and Monte.

Let’s see what happened in the FaZe Clan and Cloud9 matches at the Thunderpick World Championship 2023.

Cloud9 apply a reverse sweep against VP

Cloud9 came into this tournament with some problems, as the unexpected departure of sh1ro from the team’s roster left them a bit exposed. However, the veteran and winning blood of Bommbl4 helped the team to get in tune, and they took an excellent 2-1 victory after applying a reverse sweep.

It all started on Vertigo, the Virtus.pro map pick, where VP more than proved why they selected this map. In the first half, we had a very even match, which ended with a partial score of 7-5 in favor of VP. However, at the change of sides, Petr “fame” Bolyshev prevented each of Cloud9’s offensive approaches from leading his team to a resounding 13-5 victory.

On the second map, Ancient, things started extremely well for both teams, so the first half ended with an excellent score of 6-6. However, this time, it was Cloud9 who stepped up and won the first 7 rounds to take the 13-6 victory and even the series 1-1.

Finally, in Anubis, Cloud9 continued with the drive and determination to take the win and complete the reverse sweep. Abay “HObbit” Khassenov played hero to lead his team to a comfortable 13-8 victory to seal their passage to the Quarterfinals of this Thunderpick World Championship 2023.

FaZe Clan annihilate Monte 2-0

FaZe Clan continues to prove that their victory at IEM Sydney 2023 was no coincidence and that each of their players is at their best possible level of play. They took it upon themselves to eradicate Monte 2-0 in a match that wasn’t that difficult for them.

The series started in Mirage, Monte’s map pick, where we enjoyed a crushing and spectacular level of play by FaZe Clan in the first half, as they managed a resounding 12-0 partial victory. However, at the change of sides, Monte woke up and began to get closer to the scoreboard, but it was not enough, and FaZe won the remaining round to take the victory on the map by 13-9.

Then, on the second map, Nuke, things started very balanced, with FaZe winning 6 rounds on their T Side. Finally, at the change of sides, FaZe’s defense prevented all of Monte’s approaches from taking the 3-8 win and securing their spot in the playoffs.
