Although the VCT Americas League is in full swing, some teams have decided to make some changes on the fly in their lineups. Whether for one reason or another, making such changes in the middle of a tournament is not always convenient, but Evil Geniuses has considered it so and is the first team to do so.
Before the team plays its week 3 match of the VCT Americas League, EG has announced the departure of Brendan “BcJ” Jensen. It is unknown why the organization has decided to make this move in the tournament. However, everything seems to indicate some internal problems since how the organization has reacted to this move has
Evil Geniuses announces BcJ’s departure from the lineup
In a completely unexpected move, Evil Geniuses announced that BcJ is leaving the team’s starting lineup, and Max “Demon1” Mazanov will replace him for the rest of the tournament.
#VCT Roster Update: Demon1 replacing BcJ to give open-tryouts-find the chance to show his skills as team continues to develop.

As we can see, it is an indecipherable announcement by Evil Geniuses, as they emphasize that it is an “opportunity” for Demon1 to “show his skills.”. Furthermore, they do not indicate why they decide to remove BcJ from the lineup. Like us, many community members do not fully understand what this announcement means, let alone the player’s departure.

BcJ responds to the announcement sarcastically
While it’s true that many in the community still don’t understand this lineup change, look at BcJ’s response in Evil Geniuses’ tweet. The player posted an application form to work at Mcdonald’s sarcastically. On the other hand, it is rumored that the player will take a break from the competitive scene.

About Demon1
On Demon1’s side, we can say that the player joined Evil Geniuses in January 2023 and had not played any official matches with the team until last weekend. In the match against 100 Thieves, where EG lost 0-2, Demon1 entered the second game of the series, replacing BcJ. Unfortunately, although he had a decent performance (159 ADR, 227 ACS, and 0.90 Rating), he couldn’t do much to help his team win in Icebox.
With Demon1 entering the starting lineup, we will most likely see a change in player roles. For example, Alexander “jawgemo” Mor could become the team’s Controller using Harbor, while Demon1 would be EG’s main duelist.
With this change, Evil Geniuses aims to turn around its current situation in the VCT Americas, as the team has a 0-2 record and has failed to win a map so far in the tournament. Now, the team will have to face KRÜ Esports with important changes in the lineup and roles to seek the tournament’s first victory.
