DreamLeague S22 is about to start and its 16 participants will be fighting for $1 million and lots of EPT points. Given the importance of these points and their role in determining the teams that will receive direct invitations to other Tier-1 tournaments, we expect the tournament to be very exciting.

The winner will receive $300.000, which is unusually low for a $1 million Dota 2 event. On the bright side, lots of teams will get at least $10.000 – $25.000 because of this decision.

DreamLeague S22 Participants

Here are the teams that will compete in DreamLeague Season 22:

Group A

  • Azure Ray
  • BetBoom Team
  • iG
  • Gaimin Gladiators
  • Heroic
  • OG
  • Team Falcons
  • Virtus.pro

Group B

  • 1win
  • Aurora
  • Shopify Rebellion
  • Team Liquid
  • Team Secret
  • Team Spirit
  • Tundra Esports
  • Xtreme Gaming

Not all of these teams are exceptional, but many of them are. The Bo2 round-robin format provides lots of opportunities for these teams to show what they can do.

On February 22, a new patch was released. This Dota 2 patch, 7.35c, changed the game significantly, especially in the items department. The results will be seen at this tournament. No doubt, the strongest teams will continue to stay on top, but we might end up seeing a lot of upsets as well.

The level of unpredictability is always the highest after the release of a new patch. Just a couple of days is not enough time to adjust your strategies and adapt to the changes. This creates a lot of opportunities, especially for the teams that have little to lose and are more willing to take risks when it comes to drafts, item builds, and timings.

Favorites

The favorite teams at DreamLeague S22 are Team Falcons, Team Spirit, Gaimin Gladiators, Team Liquid, and to some extent the Chinese teams, Azure Ray and Xtreme Gaming.

At the last Dota 2 event, BetBoom Dacha Dubai, the winner was Team Falcons and the runner-up was Team Liquid. For some reason, Gaimin Gladiators and Team Spirit were eliminated before reaching the top 4. Both of them finished 5th – 6th.

After that result, it’s likely that both these teams went back to training hard in preparation for DreamLeague S22. And since they were the best teams of 2023, it’s probably only a matter of time until they become the best teams of 2024 as well.

One competitor worth watching is Team Secret. Their odds are low, but you never know when Puppey comes up with a brand-new way of playing the game.
