DreamLeague S20 stage 1 hero meta

Stage 1 of DreamLeague S20 showed us that the current meta is very strange.

Who would have guessed, for instance, that Techies would be the most contested hero of this stage with 110 picks and bans? Or who would have said that Batrider, who has a 45.5% win rate at the community level, would also be highly contested, with 110 picks and bans in total?

In the case of Medusa, we can understand why the hero got more than 100 picks and bans because she’s completely broken. Her win rate so far has been 55.5%, which roughly reflects her overall win rate of 56.6%. But in the case of many other heroes, their popularity would have been hard to predict.

It seems that the professional teams noticed patterns that the rest of the Dota 2 community wasn’t entirely aware of. No doubt, after this tournament is over, you’ll be playing with or against a Techies player in a third of your games. But a month ago, nobody would have spammed him.

The same goes for Spirit Breaker. He is now picked in 22% of all matches and he was fairly contested at DreamLeague S20 as well, receiving 53 picks and bans. His win rate, however, is only 48% at the moment.

Most picked Dota 2 heroes

By far, the most picked hero of the tournament has been Void Spirit. And his win rate is 62% right now. This clearly indicates that a lot of players have found a way to put his abilities and item build to use in a highly effective way. Void Spirit got picked 50 times and was also banned 39 times.

Magnus got picked 43 times and had a win rate of 49%. His skill set, natural damage, and tankiness make him really strong in the late game. He also works well in combination with melee carry heroes.

Another highly picked hero in stage 1 of DreamLeague S20 was Windranger. Her win rate was only 39%, which is abysmal, but a lot of teams thought that she could do well against a wide array of drafts. WR got picked 41 times.

Techies got picked 39 times and had a ridiculous win rate of 59%. People have gotten used to playing this hero and understand his skillset really well.

Medusa was only the fifth most-picked hero but that’s because she got banned 65 times.
