The Bali Major will provide one last opportunity for the teams to secure a top 12 position in the Dota Pro Circuit rankings.

Such a position offers a direct invitation to The International 2023, which is why a lot of participants will try to play their best Dota in the hope that they will earn enough points to skip the regional qualifiers for TI12.

Among the teams that stand to win or lose a lot are Bleed Esports, nouns, Team Aster, Execration, Blacklist International, Quest Esports, BetBoom Team, beastcoast, and PSG.LGD. Other teams either have very little to gain or are unlikely to lose their top 12 position.

Current DPC rankings

In the current Dota Pro Circuit rankings table, five teams are already qualified for The International.

  • Team Liquid: 1600 points
  • Gaimin Gladiators: 1540 points
  • Evil Geniuses: 1470 points
  • Shopify Rebellion: 1170 points
  • Tundra Esports: 1160 points

Three other teams are likely to qualify even if they don’t score any points at the Bali Major.

  • Talon Esports: 1120 points
  • 9Pandas: 1096 points
  • Team Spirit: 1020 points

The remaining four teams that are currently in the top 12 are exposed to serious risks:

  • TSM: 900 points
  • LGD: 884 points
  • Beastcoast: 800 points
  • BetBoom: 760 points

TSM will not be able to defend their position because they haven’t qualified for this Major. The remaining three teams are strong, but only PSG.LGD and BetBoom are likely to score points.

Among the teams that will compete at the Major and are currently not in the top 12, six of them could improve their rank enough to get a direct invitation to The International 12. But they would have to be really good and reasonably lucky.

  • Execration: 760 points
  • Team Aster: 608 points
  • Nouns: 580 points
  • Bleed Esports: 500 points
  • Blacklist International: 380 points
  • Quest Esports: 232 points

For Quest Esports, anything less than a victory would be insufficient. This essentially means that they have very few chances of attaining their objective.

Of all these six teams, only Aster and possibly Bleed have a major chance of scoring enough points to finish the regular season in the top 12. But at the recent DreamLeague S20, we saw Aster’s limitations. With so little time to improve the situation, they too will probably fail to get a top-eight result.

Bleed Esports are quite strong at the moment, but the fact that they only have 500 points means that they would need to get a spectacular result. And that will be difficult to achieve.
