From app executables in Nvidia driver files to leaked map pool, many leaks suggest that the upcoming Source 2 upgrade for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is just around the corner.

After years of speculation, the addition of Valve’s game engine Source 2 to CS:GO is now more likely than ever. Independent journalist Richard Lewis revealed that Valve is launching Source 2 in beta at the end of March, following a series of leaks and reports that surfaced over the past few months.

The game’s technical performance will be greatly enhanced because Source 2 is said to offer intriguing features including 128 tick-rate servers, better anti-cheat and graphics and an improved matching and ranking system from Valve.

Here are all the most recent details and indications about the CS:GO Source 2 beta, some directly from Valve and some from credible leakers.

CS:GO Twitter Changes its profile picture

The CS:GO 2 buzz is in full swing, so even minor adjustments to the official CS:GO social media accounts sent fans hunting for answers. Some gamers believed that the five terrorists in the CS:GO Twitter header represented the five days until the release of CS:GO 2.

CS:GO Source 2 leaked Map Pool

Other detectives have found certain maps that appear to have been upgraded to the new engine, which includes recent maps like Inferno and Overpass as well as a few returning maps like Cobble, Italy, Short Dust, and Lake.

Although this would be a somewhat unique competitive map pool, it’s also possible that these are the Source 2-specific updates, and the active maps that weren’t listed would just be transferred over in their current form.

Developers add limited test build config

Since Valve often releases game updates on Wednesday nights, players from all around the world anticipated the Source 2 update to be released on those dates. Even though there was no sign of an official update, the game had some new configurations added on SteamDB.

The addition of a new executable with the name “cs2.exe” and the description “Limited Test Build” by the developers is the clearest sign yet that the release of Counter-Strike 2 is undoubtedly imminent.

The developer pre-release branch now includes Source 2.

According to a reliable CS:GO leaker named Ale CS, the team is now getting ready to release the Source 2 update this week. According to the source, a patch to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s developer pre-release branch, where the developers test any new content or features, now includes references to Source 2.
