The French CS:GO veteran Kenny “kennyS” Schrub, widely recognized as one of the best AWPers of all time, has announced his departure from the game, capping off an 11-year career full of success and accolades.

After the Blast.tv Paris Major semifinal match, Kenny “kennyS” Schrub addressed the French spectators at the Accor Arena and announced his retirement from professional Counter-Strike. The French player departs CS:GO after 11 years with an impressive résumé that few can match, including 11 LAN triumphs, 10 MVP awards, and a Major trophy.

The French legend’s illustrious career come to an end

The 28-year-old legend made his professional debut In 2012 after switching from CS:S to CS:GO with the French team VeryGames. After a few respectable stints with groups like LDLC and Titan, kennyS gained massive popularity in 2015 while guiding Team EnvyUs to their first Major victory at the DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca in Romania.

The French superstar also made it to the ESL One: Cologne 2015 final, but KennyS’ and the team came in second place. Many fans have speculated that KennyS’ aggressive playstyle with the AWP may have been the reason Valve nerfed the sniper rifle in 2015.

Later, in 2017, the famed AWPer joined G2, which had put together a French superteam consisting of NBK-, Richard “shox” Papillon, Alexandre “bodyy” Pianaro, and apEX. G2 won the ESL Pro League Season 5 Finals, DreamHack Open Tours 2017 and the DreamHack Masters Malmö 2017 competitions before benching kennyS in March 2021.

The decision was made in response to a string of disappointing tournament results and a downward performance trend of the French AWPer, who has long struggled with mental health difficulties. After his departure, kennyS turned his focus to content creation but returned to competitive play in 2022 with the all-French Team Falcons. The French player eventually quit the team though, after the all-French roster failed to make the BLAST Paris Major.

Even if his playing days are gone, kennyS’ legacy as one of the most fearsome AWPer of all time lives on. He influenced a generation of both players and spectators and contributed to the CS:GO scene’s expansion to the dizzying heights it has reached in today’s world. As soon as the French Legend announced his retirement, fans swarmed to social media to say goodbye to the and thank him for his contributions to the professional scene. Several praised the pro’s incredible career and how he inspired a generation to pursue their passion, while many claimed they will miss the pro in the upcoming CS2.
