CODM: S&D out, Search & Rescue in for Garena Masters VI

After 5 seasons, Search & Destroy mode in Garena’s competitive Call of Duty: Mobile scene is taking a rest.

Based on the official Garena Masters VI rulebook obtained by Fragster.com, SND will be replaced by a new mode named Search and Rescue in the upcoming Garena Masters VI, which was played in various console and PC versions of Call of Duty.

Search and Rescue keeps the same premise of Search and Destroy by having two teams of five work towards a bomb defusal scenario. Unlike the usual one-life thriller that makes the game more straightforward, Search and Rescue allows for possible teammate revives through dog tags. This means, if a teammate is able to get the dog tag of a fallen teammate, they can respawn their teammate, but if the enemy is able to get the dog tag, the dead teammate will have to wait for the next round to get back into the game. The latter is basically similar in premise to another Call of Duty mode named Kill Confirmed, making Search and Rescue focus more on teamwork and revives to win objectives.

SND modes have always been a thriller and have set great moments for competitive Call of Duty: Mobile, allowing teams to win championships and truly testing the skills of players. With Search and Rescue being implemented, the structure and rulesets of the tournaments, as well as competitive focus for all teams, is expected to change.

Other changes expected for Garena Masters VI is the removal of weapon roles and individual operator skill picks first introduced in the 2023 competitive season, reverting back to the old system of global operator skill picks and bans.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

Garena Masters VI is expected to have a stacked competition format, with the qualifier stage being a single-elimination, BO3 series. Game 1 will be played using the Hardpoint mode, Game 2 at Search and Rescue, and Game 3 will be in Control.

16 teams will be selected from across the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia.

Meanwhile, at the group stages, a single round-robin tournament will be held wherein the 16 teams will be divided into two groups of 8 teams each. Three maps and modes will be played in each matchup, with the top 8 teams advancing to the Playoffs.

Meanwhile, the competition heats up in the Playoffs stage with a double elimination format, and all matches are now BO5s with the exception of the Grand Finals, which will be played in a BO7 format with the upper bracket winner having a 1-map advantage.

The tournament prize pool is valued at US$25,000, with the winner getting the lion’s share of US$10,000.

Registration has already opened last April 9th and will last until April 17th. Qualifiers will start from April 19th to the 22nd, and the Group Stages will be from April 24 to May 12.

The playoffs will be held from May 15 to 19th. All tournaments will be held in the GMT+8. Tournament information is available in the Garena regions’ CODM social media pages.
