The Thunderpick World Championship 2023 thrills continue, and the first matches of the tournament’s Quarterfinals have already been played. In this opportunity we have Cloud9 got an extraordinary 2-0 victory over BIG to secure their place in the semifinals of the online tournament.

There is no doubt that this is excellent news for both Cloud9 fans and the team itself, as everything seems to indicate that the latest moves in the squad are working. However, it should be noted that this is an online tournament, so that can directly and indirectly affect the teams.

On the other hand, BIG couldn’t hold their own in this match and conceded on both maps after different, really costly mistakes.

Cloud9 apply a clean sweep against BIG to qualify for the Thunderpick WC 2023 semifinals

Cloud9 continues to prove that the team is more cohesive than ever, as they scored an excellent 2-0 victory over BIG. The German squad had a great tournament; there is no doubt about that. However, they were not able to face Cloud9’s revolutionized squad.

The series took place in Inferno and Nuke.

Inferno

It all started at Inferno, Cloud9’s map pick, where the now quasi-Russian “international” squad, or rather the former NaVi squad, stepped up to take a solid 13-6 victory.

In the first half, Abay “HObbit” Khassenov and Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov were at phenomenal play to lead Cloud9 to an excellent 9-3 partial win on their T Side. Then, at the change of sides, BIG tried to wake up to get into the series, but the 3 rounds they won were not enough, as they conceded after 7 rounds (3-4).

Nuke

Then, the teams moved to Nuke, BIG’s map pick, where we enjoyed a great game by both squads, but with the same result: a win for Cloud9. Also, let’s remember that this C9 lineup is compact because they have 3 former NaVi teammates in their ranks.

It all started with an excellent defense by HObbit and Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov, which led Cloud9 to an excellent 8-4 partial victory. Then, at the change of sides, we witnessed an exciting give and take, but, by a result, this favored the Cloud9 boys. Finally, after 10 rounds (5-5), Cloud9 won by 13-9 to seal their place in the tournament’s semifinals.
