CDL 2023 Stage 3 Major Qualifiers – Preview

After a couple of weeks of rest and preparation, the Call of Duty League action returns with the online qualifiers for the upcoming Major III. The third stage of the CDL kicks off on Friday, February 17, and the twelve teams will battle it out to determine their qualification for the tournament.

CDL 2023 Stage 3 Major Qualifiers

With the start of season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, the CDL also has its spotlights reserved, as this weekend, we will have the actions of the qualifiers for the third stage of the 2023 CDL.

With Atlanta FaZe as the reigning champions, the rest of the 11 teams come to these qualifiers with the mission of slowing down the incredible pace of this team. Also, it is worth remembering that all teams qualify for the next Major. Therefore, these qualifiers serve as a way for teams to earn CDL Points for the rest of the season.

Start date and format

As mentioned, the CDL 2023 Stage 3 Major Qualifiers starts next Friday, February 17, with the match between Los Angeles Thieves and Las Vegas Legion. After their second-place finish in Major II, the Thieves are one of the favorites heading into this third stage of the CDL 2023.

These Qualifiers will be played online, and matches will be played throughout the weekend over the next three weeks. All these are to determine the seedings for Major III.

All matches to be played in this Qualifier were randomly selected before the start of the season. This is to ensure that teams play each other twice.

Finally, the eight teams that finish at the top of the table start the next Major III in the Winners Bracket. At the same time, those four relegated in the table start in the Lower Brackets.

Recall that Major I crowned the New York Subliners as champions. More recently, Atlanta FaZe won the championship trophy in Major II in Boston. However, the rest of the teams hope to bounce back in this new phase. Some of those who need to turn things around are the London Royal Ravens and the Florida Mutineers, who finished in last place in Major II two weeks ago.

CDL Major III 2023

After the three weeks of matches in the Qualifiers for Major III are over, the Major will begin, which will take place on March 9, 2023. This time it will be played in Texas, organized by the iconic team of the CDL and esports in general, OpTic.

OpTic Texas is hoping to duplicate their 2022 Vanguard season win in their hometown. Although this time, they will have to do it without Seth “Scump” Abner.
