The first Call of Duty League Major of the year is history, and we watched as each team gave their all to win the championship trophy. However, Atlanta FaZe was the team that showed the most consistency and was crowned champions of the CDL Major 2023 in Boston.

FaZe faced Los Angeles Thieves in the grand final, a rematch of the final of the CoD world championship, where the Californians took the victory. Now, as expected between two great teams, after a spectacular final, FaZe took the victory 4-2.

Grand Final Recap

First map: Hardpoint – Mercado

The first game of the grand final was Hardpoint at Mercado, and we saw a fast-paced back-and-forth between the two teams. The Californians continued the streak and took an excellent lead on the first map. After that, however, FaZe started to warm up and took the lead near the end of the match. But the Thieves managed to attack, put great pressure on Atlanta, and took a close victory 250-248.

Second map: Search and Destroy – Hotel

The second map was a different story. Search and Destroy was played at Hotel. Both teams started with doubts and exchanged wins in the first four rounds. However, when the match was 2-2, Atlanta FaZe took the initiative and won three consecutive rounds, including an excellent clutch by Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat in a 1v2 situation.

SlasheR unloaded his TAQ-56 on the two remaining members of the Thieves to give his team a 4-2 lead. But, in the end, FaZe claimed victory with a score of 6-3.

Third map: Control – Hotel

The teams continued in Hotel, but this time to play Control mode, with the series tied 1-1. After some great defense in the first round, the Thieves were on the verge of putting the game away 2-0. However, Chris “Simp” Lehr and Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris prevented it with excellent performance and evened the match 1-1.

Atlanta then stepped up their level of play, cornered the Thieves to take the win on this map, and put the series 2-1 in their favor.

Fourth map: Hardpoint – Hotel

In the fourth map, the teams had a similar performance to the first map, but unlike that match, in this one, Atlanta didn’t come close to the Thieves at any point and fell with a score of 250-180. This time Sam “Octane” Larew and Kenneth “Kenny” Williams dressed as heroes to even the series 2-2.

Fifth map: Search and Destroy – El Asilo

The fifth map of the grand final was highly entertaining, as each team had some excellent moments and treated us to the best of CoD. FaZe, led by McArthur “Cellium” Jovel, had excellent plays to start 2-0 on the scoreboard. However, Los Angeles woke up, and with an excellent counterattack, they managed to put the series 4-2 in their favor. But Atlanta FaZe was not deterred by this and managed to turn the game around and took the victory to put the series 3-2.

Sixth map: Control – El Asilo

Finally, the teams stayed in El Asilo to play Control mode. Atlanta FaZe started defending and was very suffocating, as they managed to take a 29-19 lead. Finally, thanks to an excellent performance by SlasheR, Atlanta FaZe won the sixth map and were proclaimed champions of the CDL Major 2.

This victory for Atlanta FaZe becomes the first since they won the CDL Championship in Cold War 2021. Also, with this victory, Atlanta moves to the top of the CDL 2023 leaderboard.
