Brian “BSJ” Canavan is one of the best-known Dota 2 content creators. His YouTube channel has more than 150.000 subscribers and his knowledge of the game is phenomenal.

From time to time, BSJ competes in professional matches. He used to play for one of North America’s best teams. More recently, he competed in the region’s Division II. Individually, he is a 10.000 MMR player, so he definitely knows what he’s talking about.

In a video he did recently, he covered Slardar and claimed that the hero is now an excellent choice for the mid role. Historically, Slardar has been played offlane because his ability to sprint makes gives him a big advantage against slow opponents.

When you’re moving at 400-450 MS and your opponent is 100 MS slower, you can escape fights with ease and force fights whenever you want to.

Why Slardar mid is viable

Slardar benefits from staying in the river. He gets armor, HP regen, and movement speed for the simple fact that he’s in the water. This means that his sustain is great during the laning phase.

Another thing that makes the new Slardar perfect for the mid role is his bash, which can now be timed to secure last hits. Slardar no longer bashes enemies in a randomized way. Instead, he bashes after every 3 attacks. This allows you to time your bashes perfectly.

On top of these qualities, Slardar can also move really fast to secure runes, escape death, or chase the enemy mid. Most mid heroes move at 350 MS. Slardar quickly gains maximum movement speed because he’s in the river. This allows you to take runes, gank with ease, and get back to your lane without losing too many creeps.

The strengths of this hero are phenomenal at the moment and they’re likely to get nerfed very soon. It’s hard to imagine Slardar continuing to be what he is today because his win rate is above 54%.

The best item build for Slardar involves a Blink Dagger and a Black King Bar, but if you want, you can play this hero in a much more aggressive manner and even turn him into a tank.

Instead of a Blink Dagger, you can buy Sange and Yasha. Instead of BKB, you can buy some armor, magic resistance, or even a Heart of Tarrasque. There are plenty of great options that can help you win.
