Blizzard’s servers suffered a heavy DDoS attack in which World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and Overwatch 2 players were affected.

The video game developer has been the victim of a DDoS attack, and Blizzard users suffer the consequences. In addition, many social network players reported problems such as a lack of connectivity or significant latency. After that, Blizzard informed all users that they were victims of a cyber-attack; however, shortly after, they reported that they could control the incident.

Thanks to Blizzard’s quick action, they were able to put an end to the attack and restore their servers. However, a lot of players had already suffered interruptions in their connections.

The DDoS attack suffered by Blizzard was very strong and caused many problems, and affected millions of players; some members of the community lost their connection when connecting to the games, while others could not even log in to their accounts.

Consequences that Blizzard users may suffer due to the DDoS attack

Games developed by Blizzard, such as World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and Overwatch 2, require the network to be constant and stable. Therefore, we can say that most of the tasks in the games are completed during online sessions, so that a small connectivity gap will halt the players’ progress. Many players affected by the attacks on Blizzard’s servers expressed that this was their biggest complaint.

Although the culprits behind this breach are still unclear, Blizzard’s servers have been attacked before; a similar attack occurred in October last year, exactly on the day of Overwatch 2’s world premiere. So many people speculate that the same individuals were responsible for the most recent attack.

Problems logging into Blizzard servers

Although the problem has now been resolved, and Blizzard’s servers are operational. The developer has published a Twitter account explaining the steps to be followed by all users still suffering the consequences of the attack.

According to what Blizzard CS – The Americas published, these are the steps that users should follow:

  • It will help if you restart your network devices; this way, they make sure that the router is not congested with data.
  • Using a wireless connection, you must optimize the internet connection to rule out different connection problems.
  • Now you should check if any program is consuming bandwidth in the background.
  • Now refresh the DNS to resolve network conflicts.

After following all these steps, players should not experience any problems during login or while playing.
