Day 1 of the Bali Major is over, and the results in group B, which is arguably much stronger than group A, clarified for us who the strongest teams are.

There have been a few upsets and also a few disappointments. For example, Evil Geniuses lost their first two matches, even though they were regarded as a very strong team. Another team that failed miserably on day 1 was Bleed Esports. Meanwhile, five competitors finished the day with a record of 1 W – 1 D – 0 L.

Day 1 group B results

Gaimin Gladiators and PSG.LGD did exactly what they were supposed to do. In fact, some people expected them to win both of their matches.

Gladiators defeated 9Pandas and drew against Quest Esports, while PSG.LGD won against Bleed Esports and drew against nouns. This second team proved to be a very hard competitor to beat. Before the tournament began, they were regarded as the weakest team in group B. But now, people are starting to recognize their talent.

With one victory and one draw on day 1, nouns are now in a good position and may end up avoiding an early elimination from the Bali Major.

Quest Esports, despite being one of the underdogs, are starting to look very promising. Just several more good results and they might end up qualifying for the playoffs. It seems that letting go of Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf was one of OG’s worst decisions in recent years.

Azure Ray, a team that has some of the best Dota 2 players in China, started the tournament with a victory against EG and a draw against BetBoom Team. These results were both very impressive and confirm what everyone has been suspecting since Azure Ray was founded. To put it in LoL terms, legends never die.

It will be interesting to watch Azure Ray in the coming days. But the potential of their roster is probably higher than that of almost any other roster in this group. Very few players have achieved what people like Lu “Somnus” Yao have.

One team that started the tournament poorly but is strong enough to make a comeback is 9Pandas. Their defeat against Gladiators is understandable. But now they’ll get to play against slightly weaker competitors and should start gathering victories.

For BetBoom, the only match they played resulted in a draw. More results are needed to draw an initial impression.
