ATF will compete in The International 12

Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf lost his opportunity to compete in Riyadh Masters 2023 after he refused to sign the contract proposed by Quest Esports. He immediately got replaced, and the team ended up finishing the tournament 7^th – 8^th.

However, before he parted ways with the team, he demonstrated a high level of ability in Tour 3 of Dota Pro Circuit 2023. Thanks to his performance, Quest finished 3^rd in WEU’s Division I and gained a lot of self-confidence. In the regional qualifiers for TI12, the team finished 2^nd and as a result, will compete in the great event.

But so will ATF, despite his removal. It seems that visa issues have caused Entity to bring him on board as a stand-in both at DreamLeague S21 as well as at The International 12.

Currently, we’re watching DreamLeague and ATF’s performance is turning Entity into a much stronger team than they should be. Consider the fact that Talon Esports and Team Liquid have two points each after the first four matches, while Entity have four, thanks in part to a victory against Liquid.

As a player, ATF is comparable with the likes of Topson and Yatoro, in the sense that he’s a very talented individual who brings innovative solutions to the table. When he is part of a team, his teammates can expect that he will do incredibly smart things. His builds are on point, his tactics are well executed, and he always finds a way to contribute.

The position 3 role in this meta

In the previous patch, the position 3 player dictated a lot during the game. Now it’s the position 3 along with the two supports that generate most of the action. If their map movements are efficient and effective at saving allies and killing enemy heroes, the game can be won in the first 15 minutes.

What happens after that point is often just a formality. The real battle is won by this trio, in subtle and not-so-subtle ways.

Being Entity’s position 3 player, ATF has huge responsibilities. He is faced with two players in the laning phase, plus a potential roamer such as Nature’s Prophet. And he needs to find a way to farm and get as many levels as possible. In some cases, he even wins his lane thanks to a series of smart decisions that lead to kills.
