BOOM Esports secure VALORANT Champions spot

In a heart-pounding best-of-five series, BOOM Esports demolished ONIC Esports  3-1 at the Grand Finals of the 2022 VCT Asia-Pacific: Last Chance Qualifier. Along with Paper Rex and XERXIA Esports, the team will represent the APAC region at Valorant Champion in Istanbul, Turkey.

BOOM esports secured the last APAC region spot in VCT Champions 2022, defeating the Indonesian rivals ONIC esports in the LCQ grand finals. Hagai “Lmemore” Tewuh and Cahya “Monyet” Nugraha both put in outstanding performances, scoring 77 and 73 kills, respectively. Even though they put in enough effort to make BOOM work for it, they were unable to turn it into a win and missed out on the Valorant Champion. After winning the APAC LCQ, BOOM Esports locked in its spot in the Valorant Champions, joining Paper Rex and XERXIA Esports for the biggest Valorant event of the year

Match Summary

Taking into account the stakes at the line, both teams gave their best performances at the Bind, opening up the thrilling LCQ final with a bang. After a back-and-forth first half, the score was knotted at 6-6. Boom defeated ONIC in the second half despite ONIC’s best attempts, winning the opening map of the best-of-five series.

At Haven, BOOM tried to establish its supremacy early on by winning five straight games.  Fikri “famouz” Zaki’s outstanding play helped the team win three more rounds in the first half to extend their lead to 8:4. In the second half, ONIC fought back and won eight rounds to tie the game at 12:12. BOOM controlled the overtime with two consecutive wins to secure the second map.

Both the Indonesian teams felt the heat as the series moved to the third map. BOOM continued where they left off and won the opening rounds to take the lead right away. With 24 kills each from Sheldon “NcSlasher” Andersen and Lmemore, ONIC made a strong recovery and led 7:5 going into the second half. BOOM gave it their best in the second half, bringing the score to 10:10. However, ONIC hit their stride in the last rounds and took the series 13:11, narrowing the gap to 1:2.

With victories in the first two rounds at Icebox, ONIC got off to a strong start. They maintained their momentum for the remainder of the half and built a massive 8-4 advantage. The tides were turned in the second half after BOOM staged an incredible comeback to even the score at 11:11. As the icing on the cake, Famousz and team won the final two rounds and sealed their spot at Valorout Champions Istanbul with a 3-1 victory over ONIC.
