After seven months of waiting for their winnings, the patience of South American DPC teams was rewarde. 4DEsports, the organiser in charge of hosting the 2021-2022 DPC season for the South American region, confirmed on Twitter that the promised prize winnings to the remaining seven teams that participated in the DPC 2021-2022 Tour III have been finally paid.

4D Esports also went on to ensure that problems like this won’t happen again and they hope they can regain the trust of the community.

Even though the names of said teams were not publicly disclosed, we know that two of the teams are Wolf Team and SG Esports, as they previously asked for the community’s help on Twitter. Expectedly, the community was quick on its feet to show its disappointment in the organiser.

The situation regarding Valve’s involvement has not been disclosed either.

A quick summary of the situation

Last month, South American veteran Heitor “Duster” Liberado Pereira came forward on Twitter, claiming that South American players were not given their promised winnings from the latest DPC season. After a week, the claim was backed by SG Esports and multiple teams from the same region.

The situation went silent in the weeks that followed, yet the community continued keeping an eye on the outcome of the situation, some even ready to meme the aftermath.

Winds of change

The DPC 2022-2023 season for the South American region will be hosted by a new esports organizer — ESB Liga Esports. The new season will also feature a new DPC format, considerably shortening the duration of regional leagues compared to previous seasons. The reason for this is to ensure that the players who qualified for the Major will have more time to secure their VISA, as harsher penalties to teams playing with subs in the Major have also been implemented by Valve. It is also rumored that South America will finally be receiving its first-ever big Dota 2 LAN event this season.

South American Dota 2 has been improving massively in recent years, with the region’s latest achievement being Thunder Awaken’s 5th-6th finish at The International 2022. Shortly after their historic run, Evil Geniuses released their entire roster and acquired most of the Thunder Awaken players

It is also rumored that EG will be moving its operations to South America for the upcoming DPC season. The revamped South American EG roster debuted at the BTS Pro Series S13, where the team was crowned as the champions. Based on the consistent improvements they have shown thus far, South America will undoubtedly attract more eyes going into the 2023 DPC season.
