While it is true that in recent years the LPL and LCK have completely dominated all international League of Legends competitions, the LCS had their hopes pinned on Cloud9 at MSI 2023. However, despite losing to the LPL runner-up and the LCK champion, the team’s performance did not exceed expectations.

As a result, Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen, the team’s Support, gave an interview to explain what happened to Cloud9 at MSI. The 25-year-old Danish player has extensive experience in the scene and highlighted problems regarding synergy with his teammates and the strategy used.

Zven explains why Cloud9 did not meet expectations at MSI 2023.

A few hours ago, Zven, in an interview with Travis Gafford, mentioned why the team did not have the expected success at MSI 2023. Zven took the audacity to speak frankly and, above all, openly about what MSI was like for C9.

As we mentioned, Cloud9 lost in the first game to Bilibili Gaming, a team that eventually finished runner-up in the tournament. While in the Lower Bracket, they beat Golden Guardians, but then they were crushed by Gen.G. In addition, all the matches they lost in the MSI 2023 were in less than 30 minutes; that is, they did not offer any resistance to their rivals.

Zven started by mentioning that they considered that they had a big disadvantage in the draft of champions against the LCK champions, Gen.G because the type of game implemented by the South Korean squad surprised them completely.

As we see in the interview, Zven claims that 10 minutes into the match, all C9 players knew that it was all over. Furthermore, the player alleges they made several completely wrong team decisions, leading to their defeat. On the other hand, he also mentioned the team’s communication problems when they were being crushed by Gen.G, which did not allow them to react to avoid the catastrophe.

Zven is disappointed and frustrated

The 25-year-old Cloud9 Support says he is very disappointed and frustrated, believing that Cloud9 prepared well for the tournament. However, the team could not show everything they had in mind; as for Zven, the team is much, much better than what was seen at MSI.

Finally, Zven said that, after finishing the MSI, the team agreed to take a well-deserved rest before the Summer Split 2023, which will begin on June 1. However, he also mentioned continuing to play in the solo queue until the team returns to training.

As we mentioned, the LCS Summer Split 2023 will start on June 1, and the first match of the season will be between the LCS champion and runner-up, i.e., between Cloud9 and Golden Guardians.
